Will an 05 c230 cluster work in a 04 c230? How hard was it to install? Did it fit right in?

no, once it is reset to zero, it can then be version coded to the car that it is to be installed in. if the mercedes software of the factory tool sees over 1500 miles it will not allow it to be recoded and have the correct mileage inserted. they can also set it to the mileage on the current odometer, but once that is done version coding is not possible. as far as i know and the odometer will display -------

yes. just if you send in the cluster let them know your needs. in my case i wanted it to be set to zero since i have acess to the mercedes factory tool and am able to version code and input the correct mileage my self, alot of the time when an instrument cluster and a car is 100% compatible the ignition switch control unit has what is known as a redundant mileage setting, if this setting is on, the cluster milage will correct itself, it may happen immediately or will after 250km, the eis will actually send the milage to the cluster. mine would not do this since the cluster was not 100% compatible.

This is what puzzles me, when you hear about mileages being altered i always wondered about the EIS. If this holds a "redundant" mileage how do they manage to do it!

I'd really like the CLK cluster but as i have a diesel its harder to pick one up. Still good news is that it doesn't have to be a new cluster!

W203 cluster question

Sunil
Will a W211 cluster work with modification? Looks just like the W209 cluster.

I wonder if somebody still visits this thread, but I thought I should ask here before starting new discussion. I would like to ask about 2 cases: first is swaping into W203 lifted cluster, second - swaping into W209 cluster. So:
1. Swaping into W203 lifted cluster:
If I change both cluster and radio (without GPS) into lifted version will it work correctly in my car? I mean: will cluster show information from radio (radio station, name of song etc.)? Will steering wheel buttons work correctly? Do I have to worry about fuel guage? Are there any differences in plugs? Are there any other problems?
2. Swaping into w209 cluster:
The same questions + does it fit perfectly? I heard there are slightly different plugs and it's necessery to redo them... is it true and is it difficult?
PS: I know about the problem with millage, so You don't have to write about it. I also want to apologize in advance for any mistakes I did in language. I also apologize, if some things was already discussed in detail, but I don't understand evefything perfectly (in English and in technical language )
Thank You in advance for Your answers!

Aside from erasing the EEPROM and resetting it with DAS...which there is a forum member who is offering some help there - thank you!

Whoever gets this in physically, I know there’ll be a little gap on top...please share.

I would like very much to upgrade/date my 16 year interior with a silver/aluminum w209 gauge pack.

I have both dash cages to try and work out/Dremel to fit before lowering the steering wheel. Pulling the w203 cluster is a breeze...

Rumor here is we’re going on another Covid lockdown soon...

So. Does anyone know proper applicable w209 part numbers (non ///AMG, w/aluminum face) that will technically work in the facelifted w203?

Since no one wants to/can share how to physically, I guess that’s what quarantine will be for...

Thanks!!!

So it seem a forum member has this in their w203 - and it seems the “trick” is to Dremel off the top corners of the w209 cluster cage, or the in dash plastic retainer frame...

Dang. If that’s all there is to this...I’m on it.
I’ve had the cages for years...
I have a resource that should be able to erase the EEPROM...

Barracuda, can you please confirm just removing this upper tabs on the w209 cage allows this “secret” swap? That the cage(s) can be removed by just lowering the steering wheel after removing the gauge cluster? Last time I looked, it seemed the cage could only be removed from under the dash, requiring a lot of labor and time, including moving the steering column...

If this can all be done from the front and show side...please share your w209 cluster PN and any needed modifications...

Connector, fuel sensor, etc.

I have a MY2005 C230 built 30/11/2004.

Thanks! Your cluster swap looks so good!

Of the parts, only A2036800034-A20968000034 was replaced. Cut off the corners according to the drawing. You need to disassemble the entire bottom of the console. Remove the center console. Down the steering wheel. Remove A2036800034. Install A2096800034. Collect back. It took us about 3 hours. No sensors were changed. According to my information, there may be a problem in the fuel sensor. Then you can simply change it to a new modification.

Does the fuel gauge work? I recall ready the initial launch car had a different sending unit than what the facelifted models received. I’d assume, if it’s all post facelift...should be okay.

Mileage can be restored by wiping the EEPROM...and using srartup and DAS...

What year cluster? Part number?

Thanks
