Mercedes 2004 C-240 4matic
2004 C-240 hard starts
I have a 2004 C-240 4matic, it currently has around 117,000 miles on it all service prior to me getting the car had been done according to carfax and I have continued to do all the service that it has needed myself. The vehicle a few months ago during one of our extreme cold spells in Virginia began to start hard, where it would crank for a few seconds then start, I chalked that up to the weather and temps in the teens and single digits. Since then it had gotten progressively worse, where some times it cranks and cuts off and then does not start until the 2nd or 3rd attempt. I have had the battery and alternator checked and they are both fine. Is it a starter issue or may it be something else? The car runs fine and has no issues once it is started, it is just starting it, the problem is morepresistant in the morning or starting it after it has sat a while (8 hours or more), and usually does not happen if it has been driving and then restarted. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'd get my crank shaft position sensor checked. My mother's ML has been doing the same thing, CEL came on, crank code popped up. & That's waaayyy after it first started to hesitate to come on. I'd also do what cm60k says. + Clean the throttle body.

The battery was tested a few weeks ago and was fine as was the alternator. I am going to clean the MAF sensor on my next weekend, which will be next weekend and change the fuel filter and put new plugs, wires, and coil packs. I have also had no error codes or dash lights, etc come on other then low fuel ever.

Also In some cases; ECU is soo hard to tell you that you have a starting issue, cause starting depending to the Exact amount of Fuel & Emission,,
if any of fuel or air got clogged, how ECU will determining that...?!?

On the M112 engine check for stored codes. Especially misfire codes 300, 301, 306 etc.
Coilpacks need to be up to snuff.
Dual plug wires per cylinder are coming up for replacement
Check Fuel pressure at Schrader valve on the front fuel rail. s/b 3.8bar or 55psi while cranking ~ if not change fuel filter & check pump.
The rest has been said.
