I would first check both, but the coolant shouldn't be low on a newer car in the winter (assuming northern hemisphere).

Doesn't Mercedes use some kind of proprietary wiper fluid?

Like most manufacturers/stealers they want you to spend your money at their place instead of finding cheaper somewhere else. Cheap stuff sold at Walmart, etc., never has been a problem for me.

Just make sure the washer fluid is safe for clear coat paints and antifreeze for the temperatures you park the car in. MB washer fluid is a waste of money. Makes about as much sense as buying MB wax.

They do fill it with what is used in Europe - alcohol-based fluid that is far more efficient compared to what they sell here. My first tank lasted almost a whole year. I wish we could get it States-side.

Top off with distilled water
Top off both tanks with distilled water, either way you are AOK with water and back on the road for your trip. Hopefully you don't need much and can rest easy. You wont be diluting much and it is much better than mixing chemicals.

BTW sometimes my car confuses the messages, ie says coolant and means windshield washer.

I got the same message and topped off my washer fluid with MB concentrate and water. The coolant message also went away when I did this. I asked the tech about this and he said they are both wired parallel and that is why you get both messages together. This sounds really stupid to me though.

the coolant and wiper fluid wires are connected together?!

omg..thats the worst thing i have heard from MB !

to me, it is a scam, as dealers will ask their customers to top off the wiper fluid and coolant fluid at the same time!

Strange... I have had the "low wiper fluid level" message a few times, but never "low coolant".
