Im a newb too w/ an xti and a 17-40L - I think I've been pretty consistently shooting stuff for the past 6 months and still havent been able to fully utilize every little detail on the camera and use it to its full potential. I imagine the xsi has even more cool stuff than the xti.... What lens ya got phil?

I have the kit lens, the 18-55mm IS lens.
but I gotta say, this thing takes WAAAAAY better pics than any point and shoot!
here's a pic I took yesterday with no flash in very low lighting and a dirty car:
(my point and shoot wouldn't even be able to focus on that!)

nice! yeah, I've been trying to figure the damn thing out, but there are so many options! in the past two days I've had the camera, I think I've filled up 2.3gb on my SD card!

What are the iso steps like on the xsi? Ive shot w/ one of the higher end nikons and a 30D, and the iso steps on them are sooo small (incriments of 20) and so much more accurate... I wish I had that kinda flexibility - I've got 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600....I didnt bother to buy the 18-55mm lens kit on the xti cuz i was told it was really bad. One of the coolest things I've read about the xsi's 18-55mm lens kit is that its MUCH better. You'll have to post smore pictures soon. Are you primarily intending to just shoot cars or wha? :P

Hmm... I have no clue what the ISO steps are. I didn't bring the camera with me today, so I can't check, but I'll check it later. I'm still trying to figure out the apreture (sp?) settings.
yeah, from the reviews, people said that the kit lens on the XSi was better than the kit lens on the XTi... we'll see
I don't think I'm just going to take car pics. I've been obsessed with taking somewhat close shots of things and then blurring out the background:
