04 C230 Rim/tire question

My current factory setup:
Front: 17x7.5 with 225/45/17 (25")
Rear: 17x8.5 with 245/40/17 (24.7")

I have the ability to pick up a second set of rims (18x8 that came off an 06 C230) but want to make sure fitment will be ok. I am more worried about negative effects caused by going from a 7.5 to 8 or 8.5 to 8. The overall height can be managed.

My potential future setup:
Front: 18x8 with 225/40/18 (25.1")
Rear: 18x8 with 225/40/18 (25.1")

I have stock suspension and no body modifications.
Please let me know your thoughts on the following:
-Will the 18" rims rub on the inside of the well in the front? (7.5 to 8)
-Will the car suffer or could problems arise from going from 8.5 to 8 in the rear? (Obviously, traction/handling would be reduced)
-Would a different tire size be more appropriate?
-Am I missing anything? (I do not know the offset of each rim although I believe the 18" rims are E35's.

Any and all constructive comments are much appreciated.

Thank you,

AT_Viper

Update on the potential rim size.

They are 18x8.5 not 18x8

If it came of a w203 they will fit on a w203 as well.

My concern is that I dont know if anything was rolled or shaved on the vehicle they came off of. According to all of my research, the rims should be ok but I would be great to have feedback from someone with a C230 with 18x8.5 rims in the front.

Thank you for your input.

I am running 19x8.5 in the front of my stock 03 C320 Sport with no issues and 19x10 in the rear. The rears I need to trim the bumper tab though.

Thanks for the advice but I had search both of those threads first. Most people had done suspension/body mods in those threads, nothing stock.

What size rubber do you have on those?
What is your offset?

I was worried about the 8.5 from a 7.5 on the front but you are running pretty large rims on the front so I think I'll be ok.

Thanks for the help.

You want to get tires that are as close to the stock tire height as possible. I went from a 7.5 all the way around to the 8.5 +30mm in the front and am running 225/35x19 They are stretched a little too much for my taste though but the rims sit nice and flush to the outer fender Next time I will go a tad taller and wider so they fit better on the rims...prob a 245/30x19. There's lots of good tire/rim calculators out there that can help you out.

Yeah, I was thinking about going with 225/40/18's all the way around. I have calculated hundreds of combinations 35 profile's are rather pricey hence the 40. I am relatively close to my stock overall with the 225/40's.

You'll be perfectly fine with 8.5 in front. Most upgrade to 8.5 in front. The concern is offset not the width. That's when you most modify to fit is when they start to run offset more negative or closer to 0. On our cars you can run between +38 to +25 offset without having to do any modifying.

I believe my current rims (stock) are 35 offset the potential rims are 38 so increasing in the opposite direction that I wanted to go.

Phister, what are you running on your c230? (rims/tires)

I don't really like the look of the stretch but am trying to have a set of backup tires in the event I need them. Key thing is that the rubber is affordable (<$100/tire) 225's I am afraid are too "stretched" for my liking on 8.5 rims.

225/40/18 on a 8.5 i would hardly call any stretch heres how it looks like

You dont want to know my setup cause I'm pretty crazy on stretch and width

my old setup was

18x10 +2 215/35/18
18x11 +4 235/35/18

currently i'm working going widebody on the car now with a crazy setup

18x11 -48
18x12.5 -37

Thanks for the picture, it helps a lot. I looked through Google images but there are so many and many are not 225's stretched over 8x5's. I was second guessing myself I guess.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll post pictures after everything is complete.

Phister, so I have a 2006 C230 and am looking to put aftermarket wheels on it. I'm wanting to do the same setup with the 225-40R18 with 18x8.5 32mm or 35mm as the offset. That would work on my car for sure with no issues? Nor spacers or any adjustments? Thanks!

Dalton
