carlsson or amg rims? 17 or 18?
I wont be dropping my car, will it look like its "on its toes"???
Harris, what rims do u have now on your car???
Some of my friends suggested that i have 1/6s Diamonds instead.....gee...im really confused now.....tsktsk.
I am really confused. Already half decided to get a set of Carlsson 1/6 8.5x18 which come with a standard offset at 40.
The Carlsson catalog suggested an offset of 28 for the C-Class. The original offset of the rims available is 40. Which mean a spacer of 12mm is needed.
Having said this, the AMG catalog suggested an offset of 34 for the 8.5 width rim (17in diameter, for rear).
When taking a closer look at my car, I was thinking also that an 8.5 width might be too big for the front, and having an offset of 28, it would probably protrude out quite a bit. Is it alright to hv an offset of say 34 for the front and keeping the rear at 28 ? All rims are at 8.5x18 and tires at 225/40 ?
All yr experts opinions will be helpful. As u can see, I am a rookie here. Hv been driving my C for 9 mths now. It is currently fitted with 7.5x16, 205/55 tires. Best regards....
Here's a jpeg version of a Visio drawing I did to help me visualize the offset in relation to the fender when I was deciding on wheels. This is not a precision drawing, but it will give you a better idea. I too think an 8.5 ET 28 would not fit, but I'm no expert. Here's a link to the information and offset for the wheels I went with.
Good luck...
ummm Carlsson Singapore told me that 1/5s in 18x8 has offset 35. 18x8.5 offset 28. Which is better 8"width or 8.5"width??? I wont be using a staggered set up, only 225/40 tires. Just curious, what .5" diff. in width would make.

Yes, what Carlsson Singapore told you was right. As I have said before, there are 2 types of 1/5s, one is called Alurad design, thats the 8.5x18 and 10x18 setup (of course you can use 8.5 all the way around). The 8.5x18 has an offset of ET28. Which you might probably need a spacer (I'm not 100% sure because I dont know the stock wheels offset on a regular C). This Alurad 1/5 has been discontinued. The newer 1/5 is called Diamond Edition, it has the 8x18 & 9x18 setup, the 8x18 has an ET35 offset. This is what you guys should go for. The 1/6 is not a bad choice either, but really depends on what "look" you want, the 1/6 is a typical monoblock design while the 1/5 is a more classic sporty design. By the way, I've Brabus Monoblock VI 8.5x19 & 9.5x19 on my car. Bruno, if I were you, I would go for 8x18 and 9x18. The look will be better, you'll have a little bit more grip on the rear, cornering will be a bit better. The only down side is you cant rotate yr tires.
Hanz,
As far as I know (I have the official 2002 Carlsson Parts Collection) catalogue on hand, there're NO 1/6 wheels with an offset of ET40. In fact, I dont think MB has ANY car in its lineup that has ET40 offsets, so it makes sense that Carlsson doesnt make an ET40 offset wheel. I dont think putting 8.5x18 all around is too wide for the front, my car has 8.5x19 and 9.5x19 and it looks very cool! Most of the cars have different offsets on front & rear, so having ET34 front and ET30 rear offsets are perfectly okay.
Good luck, guys!!!
