Apparently these new keys have to be purchased directly from a MB dealer..?

Which dealer is the go-to online dealer for keys?

Thanks!

Everytime I've gotten a key, I've had to show numerous documents to prove I owned the car. I suspect finding one online is difficult, if not impossible. Isn't there an MB dealer near you?

Yep.... But apparently prices vary wildly...? Thought there might be an online option that everyone uses.

Quotes I got this morning from local MB dealers... $270 and $350.

Even $270 seems like a lot....?

It's a Mercedes key; unfortunately, you have to bend over and take it.

Ask both dealerships which key it is; they also vary widely on which key you may get at any particular time.

As Erik said, though, you will have to choose one that's within driving distance, so your options will be limited.

Back in like 2007 you could order the key online and fax in the proof of ownership but they stopped allowing you to do that. Now you have to take the proof of ownership into the dealer and order the key which comes from Texas if I remember correctly and usually takes 2 days or so. $270 sounds about right (I paid right around $200 back in 07) you can call a few more dealers around to see though.

I bought a key last week & it was about $235 with taxes. I checked with all the dealers in Chicagoland & chose the lowest price, but they all were over $200.

the smartkey is approx $200 to the dealer so a little mark up for profit starts to
look like $250 at the very least. the metal bladed key is about a $5-10 cost to
the dealer, ergo a mark up to $20. each dealer determines their mark up/retail
price to the customer.

that gives you an idea the % of mark up when you're quoted a price. I lucked
out big time before MBUSA enforced their current, more stringent 'theft relevant'
parts policy, and manged to get my chrome smartkey for $60 shipped to my door.

when MBUSA became aware of our group buy antics, then sent notification to
all MB dealers and eliminated this loophole, forcing all future buys through the
dealers and at jacked up prices.

I called back in late fall to my MB dealer and the chrome key with the cut key was $180 and I had to actually take the car to them and show proof of ownership. The key would be there the next day if ordered before 1 or 2.
