(VIDEO) Weird noise upon cold start-up?!? Timing Chain? HELP
#51
Well, gents. On my way back home from Florida to Georgia, I filled up the car with non-ethanol gas and added a bottle of Techron as well. 300 miles into the trip my CEL thankfully turn off. Car is running like a champ!
Thanks again fellas, not only have you guys been incredibly helpful, but I truly hope this documented thread helps future owners down the road.
Happy New Year's guys! Cheers

Cold Start noise is still present... But, at least I can have better ease knowing there's a new Chain/Tensioner. Here's a video taken from yesterday morning.

Apparently that sound is either from cam adjuster sprockets or from lifters.
As you have proven, the chain stretch is an independent phenomenon from this, and the best way to check for stretch is to open the valve cover rather than relying on cold startup acoustics...

I couldn't agree more, VVF.

My cam Sensors are still leaking btw, when putting them back on, we used some sealer in attempt to stop the leaking. I know you replaced your sensors completely, RWD. Is it worth it to just replacing the O-Rings? It's more of a seep thank leak..

Aside from the oil seepage (I'm pig-tailed), are their any other adverse effects/problems from the sensors that could cause further issues down the road?

The same code popped up P0171 (Bank 1) but now with an explanation stating "Replace Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve and Hose"
Good thing I bought that damn $12 hose a year ago along with the other parts, even though MBUSA says it was replaced on campaign back in 09'.
Well, looks like I have some more fun under the hood.. Do you guys recommend replacing all other hoses (Elbow Hose/Check Valve)? Based on my research, it'd require the removal of the S/C as well... Thanks.

Been a hot minute, figured I’d give everyone an update. 130k and still running strong since timing chain replacement. Engine still makes the same noise, intermittently, upon cold start-up like the video referenced at the beginning of this thread. Cold/Hot weather makes no difference really. Still drive her like I stole her
