Hello All,
Just reading the weekly Automotive section, and came across this article that I found very timely with some discussions that have been going on in this board as of late!
Most of the article is referring to the A-Class (glad to see they're bringing it over), but there are a few references to the C230, which, for some reason, is called the CL230 in this article?
Anyway, enjoy!
Tim

I hope that they don't bring the A class to the US. I like the C, but the A is just not an appropriate car for the US (although I suspect that people say that about the C class also). If they bring it over, rename it. Part of owning a MB is the exclusivity (I still think a $26k car is exclusive, but not a $19k one).
Oh, and they are ugly!

The A-Class has a very Japanese/European look to it. It has that stereotypical boxiness/highness/stubby look to it.
Keeping that in mind, the lines between country-specific designs are blurring more and more as it's not just the Europeans and Japanese who are building small, economical cars.
It reminds me of a tall version of a Matrix or Vibe.

the is the perfect answer to the cooper.
two very ugly, really small cars sold by very well respected up market brands.
personally i think the smart is cooler then the A, but it has only a 3 cylinder, which would never sell in the US

I don't think the 3-cylinder engine would hurt sales too much. How many 3-cylinder Geo Metros were sold here? I think if one was in the market for this type of car, more of a two-seat, four-wheeled "motorcycle" in approach, the 3-cylinder motor wouldn't be a problem. As long as it provided sufficient punch.

mini's should have their own showrooms; at least, that's what my bmw dealership told me. they had to convert a mazda dealership to mini.
to clarify, although the bmw dealerships got the mini franchise, the showrooms are supposed to be separate and distinct from bmw showrooms. i think that's what trench meant, btw. the dealership aren't suppposed to just portion off part of their bmw showroom for minis.
actually, it's already open and i've seen people taking test drives. greg, when you get the philly meet together, and if we meet in manayunk, we'll drive down to the mini dealership which is very very close!

I think the A class will be a tough sell in the United States. How many are going to want a small car with small engine priced in US dollars near 20K. I once had a Mazda Protege with 1.5 litre engine that covered that mess.
