Question about Pick Up Acceleration
Hi, I have just joined the MB club by purchasing a 2003 C240 base model with mileage of ~115,000km few weeks ago. The drive is smooth so far but we find that the acceleration from pick up sometime doesn't seem to response quite well, especially when making a right turn, slowing down but not total stop and trying to accelerate. There seems to have a second or two delay. I am wondering if that is normal. If not, what might be the problem (hopefully not a big one!

You can always try the ECU Throttle Reset method.

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position. 2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds. 3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal. 4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

I have already done that. I seems a bit better than before when the car picks up/accelerates from a full stop, but still find the issue during the situation I mentioned above. I seems like the gear didn't get shifted down to get more pickup power, or something. Please note that it didn't happen all the times though.

Are you in SPORT or COMFORT mode? My 2004 C230 shifts a lot better when I have it in SPORT mode.
My apologies if your 2003 C240 doesn't have a SPORT / COMFORT mode. I just got the C230 and it is my first MB.

I just checked the manual online, there is a S (Standard) and W (Winter) mode option. I'll check later; it might be set in W mode, which will start out in second gear as stated in the manual.

I often expect my car to downshift much faster, or downshift more than one gear when mashing on the pedal. Unless you hit the kickdown switch at the bottom of the gas pedal position you'll probably be disappointed. I've gotten used to hitting the manual shift lever over to the left twice whenever I have slowed down and am making a right hand turn. It is much more responsive than trying to mash the pedal or wait for an automatic downshift. :-/
