Question Philips Vision Plus vs Osram Silverstar

Has anyone actually tried both? Are they pretty much the same? I know that the Vision Plus is made from quartz, and the Silverstar from hard glass, but which is brighter, and whiter? Does anyone know what's the color temp for these two bulbs? I think the Silverstar is 3200K, but I'm not too sure. The Silverstar I'm talking about is the +50% Osram version, not the blue coated Sylvania ones available in US.

I have searched the forums and have read pretty much all the threads here, plus many others on the net. Most of the people on this forums have the Vision Plus, but since Auto Express rated the Silverstar better, I was just wondering if anyone had actually tried both, and what do they think of them. I'm talking about the H7 bulbs not the side signal bulbs.

Thanks

I just installed a set of the H7 Sylvania Silverstars. These are the top of the line halogens rated at 4100K. Standard factory halogens are 3200K. HID's start at 4200K and go up to 5400K. The light is definitely brighter as I installed one side first to compare. If you are looking for a purple tint, etc...then this is not the bulb for you but for $40 a pair they are very comparable to lower end HID setups like you see on Acura CL/Honda.

Diamond pluses are only sold in Asia.
Used to be on Ebay for like 75 bucks.

Here's a good price on Vision plus

Post the link to Auto Express....
and while you're at it post the link to the Euro Silverstars.
I'm curious.

It's really true what they say.
Vision Plus IS brighter. And a little whiter, but not Xenon's.
The Rallaye beams really kick ***.
If the bulbs are crystal, well thats definately better.
And another thing, Philips bulbs don't blow like cheap ones.
1 year and no problem.
Also have Philips Rally H4's (55/85) in another car. 15 years and still going!

In the end, ANYTHING is better than stock, almost.
I could barely see the road with the stock bulbs.
Buy 'em both, and sell one set on ebay, what the heck!

Are these bulbs street legal? Since some of the MB's have blue lights would the cops know the difference?

The cops?
Heck no!
I mean, even stock bulbs could be obnoxious if you point the headlights up too high.
And the MBZ pattern directs light away from peoples eyes.
Why a brighter hi-beam is illegal is beyond comprehension since you wouldn't have them on with other cars in your path anyway.

Here is the link to AutoExpress reviews

+50 Category

Here this is the link to the Osram website, although it doesnt say much:

Osram Silverstar

Thanks to all the people who replied, but the Silverstar I'm talking about is the Osram Euro +50% version (clear bulb, silver tip), not the Sylvania US version (Blue tint, +30%). I am not looking for the 'blue' look.

Both the Osram Silverstar and the Philips Vision Plus are not available in the US. As for the legality, it is not DOT approved.

I know the Philips Vision Plus is good from the opinions I have gathered here, just wondering if the Osram Silverstar would be better.

Thanks

i really think it's the same. osram in euro and sylvania in u.s. they both seem to have slight blue tint on the bulb but when when lit it just produces a white light. i've had the silverstars on my bmw but in the 9006 i think the h7s can produce a brighter light. i would not go to the trouble of getting the osram since sylvania is available here if the bulb burns out prematurely then it's an easy drive to pep boys. i've had them on my bmw for over a year now and have been happy with them. i took a while for it took a while for the h7 to be available in the u.s. i'm definitely getting them for the C.

If you go to the Sylvania website they have pictures. When I popped one in on one side and left the other side stock in my garage the difference was immediately noticeable. Essentially, stock has some yellow in it and the H7 Silverstars are pure white. Pat Goss of Motorweek runs them on all of his non-zenon cars. To me it was a no brainer as they cost $40 and they are significantly brighter than stock. Are they as bright as my zenons on my QX4? No, but look at the cost and more importantly the replacement bulb cost.

Well given the price and specs being similar, I'd take a bulb made of crystal over glass. Somewhere on one those sites there's a pic of a glass bulb disintergrating after coming in contact with water, whereas the crystal bulb was unaffected...not likely they would, but you never know.
My old H4's have holes in 'em from rocks, and the bulbs are still going. I have new glass now from Ebay, not yet installed, but likely those 15 year old Philips Rallayes will be going in there.
Philips bulbs just last for-EVER! So me, I'd be partial to the Philips. The fact that they go with Crystal, which likely is more expensive to mfg. says something.
Also, the place I bought my Vision pluses from threw in a free spare! Thats handy considering a replacement would have to come from Europe.
See my post in that other forum under DIY on where to order and how to install.
BTW-The stock bulbs are Osram. They suck!
