Thumbs down HIDS4LESS but takes much longer...

well, it seems that type 1 ballasts are in short supply. i have been told that they would be in by thursday... and so anyone who is waiting should expect shipment no earlier than friday.... but who knows?

they seem to have a policy of charging in order to hold your place in the order queue (but i certainly don't agree w/ that!) but several people have said that that was done (but they didn't mind enough to cancel).

i spoke w/ Michael (the president) who has been a bit more responsible and Jeff. kyle? well...

if you have received your order, please post here. if you have anything to add, feel free.

as for me, after michael apologized for the situation and for kyle (who is very busy... yeah...), i switched to type 2 ballasts and got a tracking number. i expect the kit tomorrow but i wouldn't be suprised if it is totally wrong... (bagwell, i hope that keeps you happy till the next installment of the Young and the Hidless... )

i am still going to send out a voluntary survey (anonymous) after people start installing the kits. i'd really like to be able to send out the results to various organizations... including european car magazine!

I thought you were going for the Autolamps-Online.com kit because of all the hid4less screwups? Good luck. Post some pics when you are done.

No, Young likes to give them more ways to screw up his order. I think that he secretly enjoys the bad treatment that he got from them.

I recieved mine witht the Type 2 ballasts the day they said it would get there when I first ordered it, I think I jsut asked the right questions when ordering which is what made all the difference, I found out they were out of the type one ballast and they wouldn't be able to get that to me because they were on back order. Now I just need to find a dealer that would be willing to change my settings over!

You must be a glutten for punishment. Haven't you heard all the problems people are having with HID4less. I posted a place that had the Phillips Stage 1 kit for $400 and you can get the Hella HID Plus (equivalent to Stage 2) for $410 shipped. So I don't understand why anyone would pay a premium from a vendor with known issues.

I decided to put mine off until fall because with daylight savings time switch approaching I don't think I'll be driving in the dark that much and the Phillips Vision Plus bulbs are great. I think they will drop in price by then as more kits become available and the HID option is available on cheaper cars. This is like when ABS was a option reserved for the rich and now most cars have it. Also the MB Bi-Xenons will be available and possible Hella will make a projector headlight bi-xenon kit like they do for other cars.

Call them at 909 468.9409. They have the Hella HID-PLUS HID conversion kit for $499. If you tell him you're not part of MBWorld.com group buy they will sell it to you for $410 shipped. Remember, you never heard of MBWorld.com or Young! You can mention my name but that will just annoy them and they'll charge you more. They have a choice of Audi/BMW purple or MB blue.

Young says that the Stage 2 kit from HID4Less is a Hella 6000K bulb.

Let me and the rest of the forum know how it works out. I have no control of their prices, this is what they quoted me a week or two ago.

well, i finally got my kit!!!

and installation looks like it will be a snap.
i will install them sunday (although i want to do it now) as i've set up my appt at the dealer for wednesday...

btw, my recommendation is to stick to the type 1 ballasts if you don't mind waiting a little longer. the extra piece needs to be mounted by vecro somewhere, etc... it's just another piece to worry about.

type 1 is made by philips. type 2 is made by panasonic (matsu****a, whoo hoo!).

bluec230k, i emailed autolamps to see if they have a group buy. but if you are interested, yes, you will have to set it up... i'm a little worn out from dealing w/ hids4less...

The name of the place that sells it it's GTP International Inc. I'm sorry the phone number I gave you is a fax. The correct phone number is 909 468-9600. They are in Walnut, CA. They are open M-F 9-6 and Sat 10-4.

david, if you want, try this...

schedule to have your speed sensitive settings changed... maybe an oil change or something. then talk to the mechanic... (skip the service manager) and see if she'll do it.

<strike>otherwise, how comfortable are you w/ creating a relay? there is a relay diagram floating around from autolamps.com to make the hids work in our cars.</strike>

I tried to use the relay came from my autolamps-online.com HID kit and install it exactly according to the relay diagram. However, it doesn't work. All the indicator lights in the car will light up to warn you not to tamper with the electronic settings.

Resetting the computer is the only way to get the HID to work in our car. The computer is too smart to be tricked.

What would happen if you didn't change your settings over?
Anyone have pics of their cars with their lights on?

I am just curious, for those of you who install the HID, did you guys reset and cut off the Daytime Driving Lights? If so, could you tell me how to do it? thx a lot

i'm not sure. i have daytime running lights on normally. but the hids do not have a lower output setting for DRLs; it's either on or off. i have seen some cars w/ hids on during the day and that is what i may do but i haven't decided yet. the lifetime of the bulbs is 3000+ hours and w/ the 5year warranty, if they ever fail, i can get those replaced. (i confirmed this w/ hids4less).

are you asking how to set daytime running lights to on or off? that is in the manual but i forget exactly how. i'll look it up sunday when i install the hids to turn them off temporarily until i get the dealer to reset it.

angel100, dgnan confirms that w/out the computer set to xenons, the hids will NOT work. they will flash however so you know that they sort of work (at least that the polarity is correct...)

Ok, just found mine delivered and sitting on the front porch. Stage I + Ballast type I. Made it safely and all as advertised. Good seller. Will do business again

It took a little while to get them, but the fact that they had promptly refunded the amount overcharged (as for stage II instead of stage I) gave me some peace of mind. I had a strong feeling that they would do as promised. So they did.

Thanks, Young, for making this happen! Thanks, HID4LESS folks!
