Love the look of the new oval exhaust tip on 2004.5 sport sedan. Has any one done the swap? Can you share the info? Is it just the tip or the muffler?

TIA

I was actually at the dealership last night and decided to stop by the aftermarket parts and accessories department. They said that they would give me prices and info on monday...

Sorry for posting three times in a row... but i also have a question... does anyone know how deep the tone of the new exhaust setup is compared to the old standered exahaust found on the C230? i would imagine that it would be a little deeper because of the construction of the exhaust... any input?

I bought the tip from Caliber Motors in Anaheim, CA for ~$100 and had it welded on. Here's a couple pics. Forum member JimB has some better/closer shots of the tip on his car.

from what I've heard when I test drove my friend's 04.5 C230k it doesn't sound a lot different than the 03 C230k that I drove at the dealership.

I would just get the tip instead paying for the whole thing since there really isn't a lot of difference or performance gain.

2004.5 Exhaust Tip
You may have to modify the rear apron slightly. The 2004.5 has a small cutout to allow for the tip.

Yeah, mine's a little too close for comfort and I have noticed a slight amount of melting paint, so I'm planning on doing a bit of sanding to make it work.

I want to do this as well. There is no way I am going to spend $800 on an aftermarker exhaust.

JimB, so did you have to modify your bumper to allow this 2004.5 tip? If yes did you do it yourself? There is no way I could make this cutout so clean? Is this tip OEM Mercedes? Do you have the part no?

SOrry for so many questions. I really want to get that tip as I hate the way the myffler pipes look. Can't believe that MB sold this car without them.

yes my exhaust tip is OEM and I have the part # unfortunately I'm in LA as of this time and I won't be home not until tomorrow If no one post for the part # I will post it.

I installed it my self and have the exhaust shop weld it to my existing muffler. you can tell them what to do...the only modification is to cut the OEM dual tip for about an inch so the oval tip will be fit perfect. MY "C" is a sport model so I didn't have to cut my bumper.

JimB, thanks for the info. I have the 2004 c230K Sport Sedan so it sounds like I don't need to mess with the bumper. That was my worry. Do you know if the 2004.5 tip is mounted the same way - that is on top of the 2 exhaust pipes or is the muffler completely different on 2004.5?

Jerryg, I don't think it does matter because the tip is a wrap around the dual pipe. as long as the top section of the tip will weld to the pipe itself and the edges will spot weld to the skin of the muffler.

and here is the part # A-209-492-02-14

if you are having a hard time to get it from your local dealer I can give the dealership where I got mine.

Great Thanks!
I looked at the PIC of your set-up and looks like you do have a cutout to accomodate this. I have the C230K SS but such cutout is not there so looks like a mod would be needed.

Thanks for the tips on how to weld. I'll let all know how this worked out.

MY04.5 exhaust tip
There is definitely a cutout for the exhaust tip on the MY04.5 sport sedan. If you do not have this, it most likely will not mount correctly and will be at an angle. See photos of non-MY04.5 posted previously!
