C240 4MATIC (2004)
Gear Disengaging While Driving
Hello All, well am back and its for the same C240 4MATIC, Fully Automatic, 2003 Model. I was driving on the Highway when the gears stopped changing. The engine revs fine and it sound as if the gear is in Neutral when u engage it in Drive.
I allowed the car to sit for 30 min and started it again. It moved for a while and the stopped responding to acceleration.
The mech changed the Torque Converter twice already and its still the same. Can someone help since there is talk of replacing the Gearbox (Very Expensive)
Thanks in Advance

Out Of Control!!
My comments are based upon the assumption that the shifter jumps out of gear---if this is not the case disregard my comments
First, or maybe they have already inspected this, but put the car on a lift and inspect the shift linkage and the shifter bushing-----is the bushing badly warn!!

Why was the torque converter replaced? Did it have the same symptom? When the car stops, and you are unable to move in Drive, are you able to move in Reverse? Are you able to move in 123 or 4?

w204 2008 c300 4matic gear disengage while driving
I am currently experiencing the same issue with my car (w204 c300 4matic). My gear automatically disengage by itself while driving. I will have to shutdown and start the car again before it will work. I have changed the transmission fluid and still the issue persist. Local mechanic said the VGS is to be changed.
Kindly advise

^ You're in the wrong forum. Your car is a W204. This is the W203 forum.
Not sure if this applies to your car, but there are known problems with the 5 speed. See below.
Replace the pilot bushing with the latest version. Next you need to clean the transmission controller (TCU). Open up the passenger side footwell and use a bunch of rags to soak up all the transmission fluid running the length of cable. Then remove the TCU and open it up (use a thin plastic shim) and give the PCB a good cleaning with contact cleaner.
