Mercedes C180 Kompressor (2006)

Hi,
I have a C180 Kompressor (2006) and I'm having a problem with the SRS fault indicator. When the front passenger seat is unoccupied the indicator is on and a message comes up on the dashboard saying "Restraint System Malfunction - Please Visit Workshop". But when someone is sitting in the front passenger seat the indicator turns off and there are no error messages.![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
We've had a look at it from underneath the seat and there aren't any loose wires but the plastic 'box' it was sitting in has broken off and is hanging down loosely underneath the seat.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could possibly fix this quickly, cheaply and easily as I have to take it for an MOT very soon.
The only thing we've thought about doing is removing the seat and checking underneath to see if all the wires are in place or if there are any loose connections elsewhere. Would anyone recommend giving this a try or is there a simpler solution?
I have also heard of getting a SRS seat sensor emulator. Could this help solve the problem too???
Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!
