W203 M271 - Location of timing chain tensioner *Answered*

Hello everyone,

I know there are alot of threads about the timing chain on the M271, however i have not found the answer to this question.

Where the hell is the timing chain tensioner?

I believe it's supposed to be behind the alternator.

I shouldn't need to remove the timing chain cover right?

Is it possible that there is a small plastic cover, circle-shaped, pushed into a hole covering the head of the tensioner?

Is there any special procedure in installing the new tensioner?

Hopefully someone knows this, i had a skip on one of the cams and am in the process of replacing the chain and tensioner.

Thanks in advance,

Yes it's behind the alternator. You will see a black round rubber looking plug. Knock a hole in soft centre of it. Lever it out. Then a 17mm socket to remove the tensioner. Good luck
