Poll: How much of a discount did you get on your C230K?

Certainly you can post a follow-up if you like, but I thought some vague poll might help people when they go to the negotiation stage of their purchase.

So, how much discount did you get?

Actually, location seems to have more of a bearing on how much people have gotten off of MSRP rather than any particular negotiating skills. Dealers in some parts of the country aren't dealing at all, while others are pretty flexible. Also, if there is a car currently in a dealers inventory it seems to be more condusive to getting a good deal rather than ordering one (probably if you can act like this car is missing an option you'd pretend you want).

since i got my car so soon after the intro, and they were in very limited supply i paid full msrp for it. but they did give me top dollar for my trade. I took in the kelly blue book and edmunds trade in sheets and said I want 1000 more than that or i'm walking. They gave it to me and it was a deal. But now they arent in limited supply so i think dealers are willing to make a deal on them.

more important then geographic region, i think option selection and dealer dispurspment are the most important factors.

my loaded coupe was not to be found on any lots, so dealing was harder, but then again, there are 5 dealerships in short distance from my house.

I pity the fool that tries to buy a mercedes in the many states that have 2 or 3 dealerships, hundreds of miles apart.

and i hate all you cali people with 40 dealerships in spitting distance!

Paid MSRP, but in Canada, that's $33,950 CDN, a tad under $21,300 US, so we don't feel THAT bad about it

Greg,

Just one of many reasons that California is called the promised land and the Golden State. I'll refrain from asking you how cold it was in PA today. :p

I agree there are many regional differences as well as option differences for one's final price. I felt somewhat lucky as there is only one MB dealership within 100 miles of where I live, yet, they did get me a decent discount (approx $1200). I called several other regional locations (up to 200 miles away) and could not find a better deal.

Best regards,

CP

To make figures comparable for different areas and dealers, include any dealer ad ons like "prep", "document fee", "conveyance fee" and "advertising coop", then look at your delivered price, exclusive of tax and license compared to MSRP.

These fees can add up to $700 to the price.

I got mine in the first few days it came out and my car was part of the first 3 they got in and one was a designated demo car and one was pre-sold. At the time I figured it will be months before supply catches up with demand. I was happy to pay MSRP considering it has zero options except for a promotional TeleAid (not that I wanted it). The cars that have 5-7K in options allow for more room to negotiate. My local dealer now has 2 dozen C230s to chose from (even a used one) so I'm sure I could have done better now but on the other hand I've enjoyed my coupe for close to 8 months now and the fun of being one of the first. They did give me more than I expected on my F150 trade in. I paid 12,899 for the F150 new a few months earlier for my daughter but she couldn't handle it so the dealer gave me 12,700. I was happy as it almost erased my daughters mistake.

BTW, paying MSRP was not natural to me, this goes against everything I believe in but sometimes it costs to get what you want when you want.

Awesome discount

I got my employee discount of 12%. MSRP was $28610 and discount was over $3400. I didn't even have to pay dealer documentation fees as they are not allowed in the Employee Purchase Program. I have to keep the car for a minimum of 12 months. I'm planning on checking with the dealer in about 10 more months about trading in on another C230. In Ohio we get trade-in credit against the purchase of new so I may be driving a new C230 every year for only a few hundred bucks a month.

Cool, is that because you work for MB or do they extend this offer to any Daimler-Chrysler division?

Hi DrMike,

Good points about additional costs. For example, there were no additional costs on my C230 puchase. No document fees. No advertising fees. No nothing. So, my discount was fairly strong especially in comparison to others.

Best regards,

CP

discount

I work for Chrysler Group and can purchase two MB vehicles per calendar year. This discount is limited to higher volume vehicles, but does include all C's, E's, V-8 S's, SLK, CLK and ML's. The only AMG model available is the ML. The discount can only be used for purchase or lease by me or my spouse.

My Chrysler Group discount allows me and my extended family to purchase upto four Chrysler Group vehicles per year. I also have Friends and Family Discounts of 1% off of dealer invoice if anyone is interested in a Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep.

I got the cd changer for $400 instead of $900. The salesmen told me he would give me a break since my father bought a CL 600. At least he got me the car in a month. Theres a two year wait for the 600 but he got that in 2 weeks! not the best place for a deal but good turnaround time. R and S imports in Fort Washington ,PA
