Is Fog Lamp's covered under WARRANTY???

I got cought in a winter storm here in Calgary today.. I don't have winter tires so imagine what i been trough with the 17" tires.. Long story short.. coming home, my right fog light cracked in half because of the storm.. I did not hit anything. It just cracked in half and broke.. Is this covered under warranty?? the car has only 600km on it.. These things (fog lamps) should not brake this easy.. Or do they??? thanks...

PS. I ussually drive the Focus ZX3 for winter's.. But today was very nice out so i decided to take the benz out for a spin and a wash.. Then Couple hours later whole hell broke loose..Mother Nature does not like me.

That really depends on what kind of mood your dealer is in. They might cover it under warranty, but come on, glass usually breaks due to an outside influence such as a rock, road debris, etc. On top of that, it's a foglight which is low and vulnerable. It's a tough call. Let us know what happens.

Talk to MB dealer. I think you have good chances of them replacing it. The car is made to handle bad weather after all. On our coupe the windshield cracked few days back for no apparent reason (must be internal stress) after only 4 weeks and 2500 miles. They will replace it under warranty, set up an appointment for 4/24.

fog lights

I hope M-B Canada does the warranty thing for you, which they will if there is no impact evidence on the lens. Otherwise, you're into an insurance claim, with the comprehensive deductable (usually $100 or $200 - ouch!).

After it's replaced, get a sheet of 3M "Stonguard" and apply it to the fog light lenses. It's a thick clear vinyl coating (maybe 3-4 mm thick). You'll have to cut it to fit; it adheres directly to the glass lenses. They will never crack again. I've used some on my Peugeot 405 for the past 7 years (again, I learned the hard way, after losing a fog light to a stone) and since then the lights have been PERFECT!

It just broke!

I dont think so... and neither will they. Something either hit it or you hit something (unbeknownst to you) which caused it to crack. I cant imagine just the cold weather cracking the lens. But... anything is possible. You will however, have trouble with the dealer unless they like you. If you have a good relationship with them, they may do it for you gratis. Good luck.

I have phoned the MB dealer today... I told them what happened with the lens on the fog lamp.. The guy told me that they do not warranty the lens.. I asked him to at least take a look at it.. So got an appointment for Friday.. He doesn't think the warranty would still cover it but i am at least getting them to take a look at it..

When the lamp cracked there was no one in front of me. The Warning light came on in the dash right away telling me about the gone out fog lamp.. I pulled the car over to find out that the lens cracked.. We will see what happens? I hope they are nice enough to replace it for me?

Since I am a auto Insurance agent, I recommend having a $0 deductible on comp. It only cause insurance to go up about 30 buck for a 6 month policy and 50 bucks per annual one. Its alot better than giving out a few hundred for a cracked headlight assembley. Or in my neck of the woods a tore up car because of a deer. Just call your local insurance agent and ask for a $0 deductible comp when your policy renews.

Thanks for the advice, Tim. I'll be calling my agent soon.

I too asked the dealer and insisted the the foglight issue has happened several times with multiple c230's showing that it's a problem with the car and not just an accident.

They wouldn't budge.

There is no need to spend hundreds on foglight assemblies for cracked glass. If the fog light lens is cracked, but the rest of the assembly works fine, you can just replace the glass lens. My dealer parts dept charged $18 per side, I think. If your service advisor suggests replacing the assembly instead of just the lens, they are fleecing you and you need to find a new advisor/dealer.

A quick search shows the clear lens part numbers are here:

203-826-01-90
203-826-02-90

These are the clear lenses used in 2004.5+ I think, but they also fit on 2002-2003, if you want to replace the frosty glass.
