Thumbs up Positive posts about the C230

With all of the posts lately regarding problems with the C230 (and the paranoia these posts have caused), I would like to balance things out with some posts about how great the car is.

Today, I was at a stoplight, and a 2003 SL500 pulls up. It happened to be Alabaster White, MB's most attractive color. The guy in the SL says to me, "Awesome car you have there."

I'm now past the break-in period, and I'm starting to find out what the car can do. So far, I'm impressed, and I've not been back to the dealer except to get the plates put on the car.

my neighbor that i don't know (but whom i will try to get to know ) just got a new silver sl500! i live sort of in a cul-de-sac street and i saw him driving out while i was installing the hids kit...

he didn't say hi though, nor did he say such a nice compliment about my car

btw, i, too, love my car!

OK Tone, demeanor and facial expression....

Coming from a 2003 SL500 owner, are you sure he just wasn't being sarcastic?

That statement is dripping with sarcasm. That's like a Corvette Z06 pulling up next to a Cavalier and saying the same thing.

If you want, you can think negatively, and perceive his comment as sarcastic or condescending but I perfer a positive view. Here's a guy, in a very good mood, driving his brand new SL500. He sees a fellow Benz owner driving a new coupe and, via his comment, passes on the good vibe of MB ownership.

He wasn't sarcastic at all-just a friendly remark from one Benz owner to another. We chatted for the short time we were at the stoplight; turns out we bought our cars from the same salesperson.

I had a similar situation, but not really... a neighbor of mine, whom we have socialized with in the past, drives a black SL500. The week I got my car, he pulled up next to me at the mailbox on our street and says "Hi". Nothing else. Pompous ***. :p

That is really a secsy car

Similar incident happened to me when I was picking up my C230 at the dealer. A guy who already owns a merc stopped and looked at my car (Albaster White+Oyster) and sincerely complimented " Oh this car is secsy...."

At my work, oh boy, I think I am not going to get my increment this time... They do not believe the price I paid for a mb. I have to proove by showing the price on the web....

It is really a sexy car

Wow, some of you are a very suspicious bunch. One of the guys I work with was looking at my C230 yestersday and was quite complimentary. He has owned Mercedes, Bentley, BMW, and about every other major brand at some point over the years. I do not think he was being sarcastic even for a second. He even guessed the cost within a few hundred dollars even though he has not been in the market for one. Sure, if the car cost $70K, his response might have been markedly different. However, I do think people understand what position the C230 sits in the Mercedes line.

Best regards,

CP

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
A co-worker's husband just bought her a new SL500. Prior to that, she had an SL320. Yesterday, she stopped me in the parking lot and said "Nice little Benz you've got there! I love that color." conversation continued and ended with a 'Welcome to the neighborhood' flavor. Hardly sarcastic, and refreshing to know that SOME Mercedes Benz owners are actually friendly.

(By the way...I absolutely CRINGE when people refer to a Mercedes Benz as a "merc". To me, a Merc is a MERCURY...built by FORD...so if you MUST follow the American propensity to shorten the name...please call it a Benz.)

Hey Rick

Where I originally hail from there are no Mercurys, so it never occurred to me. Good point - I'll try to change my ways!

I have been test driving some other cars lately, and I must confess that the BENZ is a great driver's car. I am also astounded at the level of standard on-board equipment, which become pricey options on other marques.

Enjoy your Benzes. It is a rare opportunity that we've been given to experience MB at this price. Don't look for MB to stay below $30k for too long.

It's true I do sing in the shower and I will say the tooth fairy was very good to me. I also suspect, after reading several of your posts, that I do wake up in a good mood more often than you.

I wake up in a good mood every other day, yesterday was my off day . Even during good moods I am without a doubt cynical. That means I cannot believe that the remarks of that SL500 owner weren't in one way or another self serving.

You know...they are people out there, happy with their life. When you're happy you tend to share that hapiness like, quite possibly, the SL500 driver complimenting the coupe owner. If a person tends to be cynical, and suspicious I'll bet they're not very happy with their life. The way I see it life's too short to waste it being suspicious, negative, and sarcastic.

Your view, point taken. However what you construe as a sunny disposition, I characterize as part of one's self serving human nature.

Well this tends to be a bit of an overgeneralization but I think it would be interesting to test the correlation between cynicism and happiness. BTW just about everyone I know in the NYC area is pretty much cynical. Is everyone I know unhappy? I'll have to think about that.

WyattEarp, I've had the experience dealing with incredibly well-to-do people, some are self-serving, but others are as nice and genuine as us "regular folk," whatever that is. I can see perfectly how someone in a SL500 can make genuinely kind remarks to a fellow Mercedes-Benz owner. And the more freindly thay are, I find them to be the more wealthy, compared to the self-serving kind.

I choose to be part of the club, rather than feel like representing its lowest rung.
