2005 C230K Sedan Interior Pics --- C Spot

Sorry for the large pics and the so-so quality. I took these at C-Spot event in NJ yesterday. The revised C looks great. The small revisions make a big difference. Aside from the obvious changes, driver seat has manual lumbar support, plus that's a dual pop-up cupholder in the center. Sorry, no exterior pics, but the car had an AMG-like front bumper, plus the turn signals on the mirror look slightly different.

03/22/04 EDIT: Click here for the three pictures. The page doesn't load that quickly though...

I was there too today, had a blast, especially during the AMG thing where we drove with a trained driver, he was basically talking to me while launching to 80 mph, still holding the conversation, and I see the turn coming up and I say to myself, no way can he make this without slamming his brakes, well he mentions how great the suspension is, and quickly turns it, the wheels did not screech at all, i was very impressed, the only thing that irked me, was the breakfast burrito i had, what were they thinking???

This is definitely a step in the right direction for MB; the center console looks a lot more refined. However, the steering wheel buttons look stupid.

Vik, did you realize that your entire post is one "sentence"? =)

For those who can't see the images, just copy their url into another browser window and you should be able to see them if you refresh.

whatup and Viktorious: greetings and thanks from a new member considering a 2005. I have a few questions.

In Europe, it appears that Sport models have a short-throw shifter. Did you have a chance to try a manual? If so, opinions?

Did you have a chance to drive the C230k? If so, what are the changes in ride quality/steering precision/etc?

What did you think of the quality of the new interior plastics?

Is the driver's seat more comfortable than the old one?

Thanks in advance!

They only had a 2005 on display. The cars used in the C Spot demonstrations were 2004 models. I drove a C240 4Matic wagon and a C320 with a 6-speed. To be honest, the 6-speed wasn't as bad to use as I remember, but then again, I really didn't have the opportunity to shift out of 2nd in the cones.

I think the 2005 interior upgrades are subtle, but effective. There's definitely a more upmarket look, and material quality seemed good. I'm usually not a big fan of aluminum trim in cars, but the new pattern in this C230K was attractive. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but there is a slight tecture to the trim (very thin horizontal lines). The new gauges look great, and the not only do the new buttons on the center console look better, but have a higher quality feel as well. The new seats were also nice, and they had lumbar support (though the control was plasticy...but that's just being overly critical).

I can't stand that the trim around the stereo is black and the rest of the dash is metal...it looks unfinished.

Any exterior pictures?

I was told by my dealer (and saw on material provided by MB Canada) that the 2005 sport model will have an AMG appearance package - although no AMG wheels - just the 5 spoke wheels from the 2004 sport model.

I would love to see some pictures showing the AMG kit on the exterior.

Sorry guys...I didn't take exterior shots of the car.

Aside from the front bumper, the 2005 C230K sedan looks pretty much the same. The front bumper is similar to the one on the current C32 AMG.

Other slight changes:
1) A chrome strip running along the bottom of the windows.
2) Clear lens headlamps on non-xenon cars (similar to non-xenon CLK lights...no projector).
3) I'm not sure if this is a change, but the moldings on the side of the car and on the bumpers also had a chrome strip.
4) Slight modifications to the taillamps and the mirror indicators.

whatup: thanks a lot for your two replies. I have some additional questions:

You mentioned that the bumper looked like a 2004 C32's. Coulkd it be the "AMG appearance package" that I have read about on some European sites.

Is the alu trim different from the current model's?

The aluminum is different than the patterned aluminum on the current C-Class. I personally don't like the look of the current trim, but the new trim is attractive. Like I said in the previous post, the trim has very fine horizontal lines (at first glance, it looks flat, like the brushed aluminum trim in the C32 AMG).

I don't know about the AMG package in the European C-Class, but American cars have different equipment, options and packages than European models.

Are you saying that for the U.S. 05 C-230 Sport Sedan will have the same front bumper as the U.S 04 C-32 AMG?

What does the "NEW 2005 C-230 Sport Sedan" front bumper looks like?

Well it's settled!

The new 2005 C230 & C320 – “Sport Sedans” will have AMG bodywork as a standard feature to distinguish it from the luxury (non-sport) models.

The first PIC closely resembles what it will look like. Clear lenses of course.
