2007 C230 Sports Code P2006 and P0128

Hello my name is Kaiser

I have posted in this forum when I had issues with my old 1997 c280 ,that car has been totaled due to a lady with Elantra decided I should no longer have that car.

I have a 2007 c230 sport now ,bought it from a dealer here in San Diego ,all looked good ,test the car with pro (??) ,paid 9.5 all together with 109k on it .

Everything was fine until I drove my first 800 miles ,all I did in the mean time was replaced all four rotors and pads.it did not feel right at the time of purchase.

All of a sudden I got P2006 and P0128 , when I start up the car after a 2 week break, so I reset/delete them codes ,both codes came back on about 200 miles ,so I reset /delete again ,came back on again around 220 miles .

I have a few friends who are willing to help fixing the car using youtube

Now I am ready to replace the coolant thermostat (code 0128)
my question is do I need to replace the whole assembly or just the thermostat ? do I need to replace the sensor as well ?

As for P2006 ,I'm not sure what to do ,it comes up as (Intake Manifold Fumble Flaps) . i don't even know what that is

Are all these code related ?

And yesterday there was a huge new problem as I was coming to a slightly uphill ,which I drove this car and my other car for few years ,yesterday I felt my car wasn't going the way it has been ,stuck at 40mpg ,will not go up ,finally when I passed the so called uphill and went in to a ramp/exit ,wait on a red light, the car shut off the engine , dashboard looked like the key was in #2 position ,there were cars behind me and blowing horn, I quickly put the gear in park and restarted the car ,it started and I was home ,then my wife took the car for some local drive ,it was fine .it was onle a couple of miles . so this morning I noticed it took a long time for temp at dashboard to go up ,eventually it did.on the way back I was extremely cautious ,kept myself to the side ,there was bumper to bemper traffic all the way ,most I drove was 50miles /hr ,probably for a couple of minutes .
so coming thru that same spot ,today I also feel car was being a little sluggish and I passed the light where it stalled yesterday ,I thought I was good today ,it the car shook a little bit engine turned off at the next light ,I did what I did yesterday and came home .

My friends tell me I need a new Cram Position sensor (which does not give a CEL)

My question to you guys is

a. do I need to replace camshaft position sensor ?
b. do I need to replace coolant temp thermostat (P0128)
c. What is a Intake Manifold Fumble Flap ? (P2006) is it an expensive fix ?
d. can they all related ?

any help would be greatly appreciated

if you have any questions please let me know and please do not get bored with my post ,I tried to put as much info as possible

I read some of the posts and threads related to the codes on this forum .I just wanted to be sure

Thank you very much

a. do I need to replace camshaft position sensor ?
Dont think so but...
b. do I need to replace coolant temp thermostat (P0128)
Sounds like it.
c. What is a Intake Manifold Fumble Flap ? (P2006) is it an expensive fix ?
If I remember correctly these are the flaps in the intake manifold that change the runner length for performance and economy. This could get real expensive real fast.
d. can they all related ?
I guess.

Thank for your reply

So if the engine turns off at a stop sign twice in two days and starts right back up ,its not the Crank position sensor ? I think I posted as "Cam Shaft" in an error

I want to be sure before I order any parts ,I am definitely getting the coolant Thermostat . do I need the whole assembly or just the thermostat

Thank you for your reply the the link .I've already ordered a Wahler Thermostat and a Bosch Crank position Sensor for now. I will get the Thermostat installed first and hold on to CPS and see how it goes .

Did you have the same issues as I did ?

For the thermostat, I spent like a year with symptoms before the error appeared. I'd been noticing unusual fluctuation in low temperatures, signs that the thermostat was having a hard time at keeping closed. As soon as I replaced the part, the problem was gone. I'm quite sure you will also need some coolant and check with your closest dealership as the price might not be too much higher than getting it online especially if you're in a rush.

I got P0128 3 times in last 2 months ,I'm ready to replace it ,I have a full gallon of coolant (blue stuff) ,I had from my old c280 . I ordered Wahler thermostat 100 c , only I hope some of the problems will go away with this ,I am also going to replace the crank position sensor ,I have been told that my cars engine shutting off twice so far due to this .I also have a P2006 ,"Intake Manifold Fumble Flap" issue ,I'm not sure if they are related but we'll see
Wahler 100 c should be good ?
Thank you for your help ,appreciate it very much

Looks like the intake manifold has to come out to fix the P2006 (my '07 C280 started throwing this one). It's about $250 in parts if you do it your self;

Thank you

I found a mechanic out of craigslist ,yes craigslist ,he is a full time Ferrari mechanic but knows a lot about Mercedes ,owns a c55 and cars like Alfa's.

Anyway he was on medical leave and was bored ,wanted to do some work on the side.
He is the most knowledgeable Mercedes guy (or any European) I have ever met ,I mean this guy knows his sh**.

He drove away with my car from the garage ,promised me the car will be like new again.

He did the following and used Starcom

Cleaned EGR Cleaned and repaired manifold Purge manifold /fuel injector Reset tranny shift Swapped coolant temp sensor Changed oil/Filter Fuel Filter pressure checked ,replaced fuel filter Replaced Air Filter Reset transmission and programmed a better map Replaced 4 vacuum lines Re-torque thermostat
Flaps were closed ,he opened them
Suggested not to use Arco gas ,recommended using Mobil or Chevron ,55% 91 and 45% E85,
and I have been following this religiously.
Also recommended I get a new Manifold and upgrade kit in the future.
Car has been running like new ,I mean new ,so far I drove about 1000 miles (I don't drive a lot) ,no CEL since.

He believes car was off loaded due to P2006 but I had the last laugh

His price was less than half of any Indy mechanic would have charge me and extremely honest.

He will be my guy from now on
