manual with cruise control

Does anyone know of another manual that has cruise control? I've never seen it before this car. I love how you can shift gears and it maintains speed, how do it know?

Pretty much any manny with a price tag over $20k has cruise these days. Unfortunately, they're getting harder to come by.

I had cruise on a manual 1992 Mazda Protege. However, the cruise shut off as soon as you depressed the clutch.

I didn't know the C230 was different--good to know.

My 83 Celica, 86 Supra and 94 Eagle Talon all had 5 speeds with CC...

My MG's were built before CC was even a glimmer in the eye....

I have been driving manuals since I learned to drive (you have to pass your test in England on a manual unless you are only going to drive automatics, being able to shift and use the gears properly is part of the test). When I moved to the States in 1988, I bought my first manual with cruise control (toyota celica) followed by an RX7, Nissan Maxima and Land Rover Discovery (all manuals and all cruise control). If you need to select a lower gear, for instance on long steep hill climbs (interstates through the mountains), with a manual you will have to deselect cruise to shift down (happens as soon as you press the clutch or the engine would overspeed).

With all of those cars the cruise control it did not maintain the speed if you shifted gears. The C230K will maintain the same speed if you shift gears. It does not rev the engine if you push the clutch, nor does it disengage the CC.

I noticed that, too. Isn't it marvelous? Plus, due to the elastic torque band, shifting rarely becomes necessary; you can drive up an incline doing 75mph in 6th gear and still accelerate. Feels like a TDI. Love it! I can't wait to go to Germany to rent one - if that's possible - and try it on the 'bahn. What a cruiser.

It is a nice feature (how you can shift and cruise doesn't cancel), but I've noticed that the tach jumps a few hundred RPMs meaning that its a bit late on letting off the gas before the clutch is depressed. I know that's not too healthy for the clutch so I will try to avoid this practice (I hardly ever use cruise anyway.)

PS - my 83 celica, 83 supra, 91 mr2, 94 saturn all had CC, but they cancel with the clutch.

Um, I'm kind of confused. What are you people setting the cruise at, 25 mph?

Maybe I'm not getting the most out of it, but I only set it when I'm safely in 6th with no reason to shift down. Am I missing something?

Tommy,
We have a realy steep grade on one of our freeways from the SanFernado Valley to West Los Angeles, it should be taken in 5th not 6th gear at 65mph. This is how I noticed the feature.

BTW, I really love the fact that you can set the cruise control at extra low speeds. I use it to keep myself from speeding around our neighborhood at 25 MPH... most car cruise controls can't do that.

I have a 73 XJ-12 that doesn't even have cruise. I think Lucas realized it was far beyond their ability, and stuck to making lights and switches that don't work.

That is truly frightning. All my British cars have Girling Hydraulics. Actually, they aren't too bad.

Lucas....the prince of darkness

Why do Brits drink warm beer?

They own Lucas Refidgerators!

My favorite Lucas story goes back to when I was a kid. My father was driving his Austin Healey Sprite and it started to rain. He pulled under a bridge to put the top up and put the side windows in place. So once back in the car, he turned the headlights and wipers on.

Everything was fine until he needed to turn. Using the turn signal, the lights dimmed and the wipers stopped. When the signal switch returned to the off position, the lights went out and the wipers started sweeping faster than we had ever seen. Turning off the wipers, the headlights came back on, the dash lights went out and the turn signals started blinking left then right...etc. He turned the wipers back on, and everything was fine...until the next turn.

The funniest part was when he took it to the dealer to get it fixed, the mechanic scolded him for driving in the rain!

Oh my god, the brakes are by the prince of darkness? That is a good reason to upgrade.

Rick that is a funny story. You would think that an electrical supplier based in a very rainy country would have learned very early how to build water resistant parts.

the BMW Z3 manual disengage cruise control whenever the clutch or brake was depressed.

Cruise control is nice to have but I seldom use it.
