Headliner removal
I would search.
There have been plenty of posts from water leaks, IMS install, to pre-face lift sag and re-line.
Some say to take out the back glass.
Others say to take out the center console and go from there. That is the way my WIS CD shows it - and it even states a fold will occur...it is normal and will not be noticed when finished.
To that end, I would get your hands on a WIS CD.
I would NOT try and fit your 1998 C43 with a w203 C280 unit...otherwise, we can not be sure by what you wrote what the other w203 is.

I would get into EPC and just check part numbers...
I would highly doubt that it wouldn't fit...that seems like a staple, large cost item that they would want to keep the same (sans trim/finish) across all models. The only part deviation I can think of would be for post op in handle, IMS, etc. cut outs...

Look into the TSB and Butyl Chord if applicable.
Also, I know there is an older post (I think from Japan or China) about a failing/rusting metal "U/J" union to the drain.
I am sure you'll want to fix the problem before you install the new headliner.
