To replace the headliner you will need to remove the front or rear windscreen (unless you have a wagon). If you don't then you will get a large crease mark down the head liner since you would have to bend it to get it in.
To get the head liner out remove the grab handles, sunvisors, overhead control panel (front interior light), rear interior light, a, b and c pillar trims. then the head liner comes out. Don't take sort cuts by not removing trims, you will damage the new headliner.

With regard to the head liner, once it is removed do you have good access to the sunroof glass? I (And I am not crazy) would like to replace the glass with Lexan to reduce weight, or even remove the sunroof completely. I never use it and all it does is rattle at the trim ocvering at the front.
Would this be difficult to do?

You can replace the sunroof glass at anytime, it's easy access. To remove the sunroof frame then you would need the headliner removed.

The headliner can be removed with out removing the glass.... after the headliner is completely detached from the roof move the pass seat back and recline it all the way back.
It helps to rmove the rear seat cushion so you can recline it further. You can fit the headliner out the pass front door very easily. The c class is one of the easier ones to do because the headliner is not as wide...

I have a question for those of you that did the job (removal and reinstall). Im having some issues now that I am installing the finished headliner:
a) the car wont start - im thinking something crucial may have been unplugged and not allowing the car to start?
b)the dome lights will not turn on, but the sunroof works perfectly.
c) there is one loose connector. I am not sure if this was connected when I took the headliner off, but I can say that I have no clue where it is supposed to go. I have attached some pictures. The connector is relatively small with a blue and brown wire.

larger pics available upon request. I originally thought I had found the location for the connector (marked with the green arrow), but it turns out that the connector does not fit there and there is only 1 pin.
