2004 C230 Kompressor
Smile Key problem.

Ok. I'm new to this but I have a question. I have a 2004 C230 Kompressor. I'm using the black spare key. It cranks the car fine. However, it doesn't lock and unlock the doors. When I press the buttons, the light on the key fob won't light up either. I changed the batteries and even replaced the key fob shell. I'm reading on different forums and it seems like I'm getting bad contact with the battery and the circuit board. Anyone have this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it without getting a new key?

I'm unsure what you mean by this. "Spare" implies you have another one somewhere.

Do you have more than 1 key?

Most likely it its damaged and can be fixed.

But if this is your only key, I'd buy a 2nd one first.

I also have a more or less similar problem. I recently bought my car and it came with one key , problem is the key does not lock or unlock the doors, l also changed the batteries and nothing. the red light on the remote isn't lighting up at all. What could be the problem?

Make sure batteries in key are good AND installed correctly.

If red light doesn't work , remote functions won't either.

Be very careful with removing PCB, as you are on last part of key working.

I suggest buying new key, THEN getting older one fixed.

When you have 2, you'll sleep better at night. Especially on road trips.
