Did ou make sure the milage/odometer was showing? Try doing it right after you put the key in (i.e. don't turn the key from the run position to position 1). Here's a youtube video.

Turn key to position 1
Make sure screen shows any other display but mileage, otherwise it will reset trip odometer. If you don't care, go on to the following step.
Press and hold the reset button for 45 seconds (it will beep when read)
Turn key to position 2
Press bottom left button on steering wheel (the two pages one that sits lower than the other)
It will then show you software version, oil level, engine model, etc
Press volume up and it will show you the above option.
I personally wouldn't do a burnout in these cars, they are just too expensive to fix should something break. Maybe with some very old tires, but even then...
In my old Charger? Did it all the time without a care in the world.

I did it, C320 '01 Open Diff No Super ESP
I tried it today and no luck. Even with the ESP off the car won't do a burn out. I tried dropping the cluth at 3000 to 4000 rpm and still no luck. The tire's just chirp and that's it. Why is it that even with the ESP turned of the warning light still flashes on me when trying to brake the rears loose. This is not going to be Fun at the track. Because i like to do a burn out and get those tires sticky for the track. But now how do i do that.
