xpel type protection for door edges?

xpel type protection for door edges?
i just noticed that there is about a 1/2 inch long paint chip right at the edge of the passenger door. it must have ding-ed something. i thought about getting some of the rubber edging at pepboys but then i also thought maybe it would look better if i got some 2" wide xpel/3m material used for the clearbra (maybe 8 linear feet) and sort of custom cut it. what do you think of that idea? i'd probably really need about 1/2" wide strips along the edge.
please, no smart answers about putting on scotch tape or saran wrap or something like that. :p

I think that's a neat idea. If trimmed nicely, I think it would be functional and transparent, too. Let us know if Xpel will sell you some.
You could also call the Parts Dept or Body Shop at the MB dealer and ask if they have any of that clear tape that comes on the New MBs. My C320 has clear tape on the upper corners of the trunk lid in the gap between lid and fender. I'm trying to decide whether to remove mine before I Zaino the car. Anyway, the dealer could be another source.

what does the stonegard door edge protection look like? i was going to get the 2" wide strips and just show about 1/4" on the outside - so a very thin little line may show at the door edge. i would have discarded any excess width.
also, if i mess up, how easy is it to remove?
i, too, have scratches at the door cups (in fact, i didn't even realize that they were called cups - live and learn
) but i was more concerned about possible oxidation at the paint chips vs scratches. but for $13, i'll try it too.

Wouldn't the glue at the edge attract dirt and look worse. Also, following the curvature of the door and at the same time wrapping it around the edge it can't possible come out wrinkle/bubble free. Also if you already have a chunk of paint missing you have more to hide than protect since the part that hit is probably the only part that ever will. Since you're already past the point of no return you might as well try keeping it touched up rather than protecting it. Check out the Eastwood Company. They sell a touch up pen that you fill with factory touchup paint and then you draw it on the edge like a marker. They cost about $2-3 each plus a bottle of touch up paint from the dealer. A have a black car and bike so I use the more easily available black magic marker and it works great. My neighbors' rod had some chips and wear on his black paint and was going to get it repainted. I came over with my marker and that postponed the re-paint. Works great on black pianos too.
