Hood won't pop open on drivers side -UPDATED

Hello all, I did a search and found the same problem but no resolution hoping you all could help me out. Like the title says can't get the hood to pop open on the drivers side. Already tried having someone pull the red lever while I push, pull, reclose and try again as I push and pull all to no avail. I jacked up the car and tried to see what I could from underneath and I believe it's the latch but with a plastic cover over it and of course its right behind a hose. If anyone could shed some light on the subject I'd be most appreciative. Oh and the reason I'm even trying to get under the hood is to change the cooling fan as the temp sensor has failed. Thanks in advance! I guess I should add it's an '07 C230 Sport.

Well I was able to get the hood popped open. Removed the wheel and fender liners and popping the latch by hand. Got the fan changed all's well right? WRONG!!! I go for a test drive fan is working great AC is cold then the car starts shifting funny. Well I stopped and now it won't shift. I'm in drive but it won't engage. Not sure what happened, I didn't touch any of the tranny lines just disconnected the top radiator hose. FML RIGhT NOW!!! And the check engine light just came on...WTF?!

I haven't had a chance to tear into this yet but I have a question. Although the car won't move the motor still runs and it almost overheated and antifreeze was running out. I assume I didn't put that upper radiator hose on correctly with the quick clip. Would this cause the ECU to not let the car engage gears? Is this what is considered limp mode?

GQ:

You would know if the rad hose was not installed correctly, it would spray a ton of water. These push on with the clip in place. I would guess the tranny is low on fluid? Nothing you did should cause a problem with the shifting. Did it throw a code?
Had the same problem with the hood latch. The Bowden cable anchor point slipped out of the slot in the latch.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, I just got the car towed home and of course can't get the hood open again but from what I can see looks like that rad hose isn't on right and one of the tranny lines to the rad popped off. Go figure. It takes me longer to get that damn hood latch popped than anything.

I also had an upper tranny line let go after replacing the balance shaft. Apparently I didn't have it seated all the way.
What a mess. Damn stupid push connectors. What a POS design. Yes, it's easy for Hans and Frans on the assembly line. I'll take an old time threaded connection, and a hose clamp any day.

Hood opened...mo' problems

So as suspected I did not completely engage the top radiator hose (which is now installed correctly) and the top ATF line did pop off (also now installed correctly). As for the hood, the cable came out of its slot now onto the immediate problem, The car will not engage the tranny and needs fluid, after lots of searching there are many threads indicating a fill tube with a red pin that can be located in the rear, left side of the engine bay. I find this to be non-existent on mine and understand this will only be found on 722.6 transmissions and not my 722.9. I did see a cap located directly on top of the tranny (see pic below) and was wondering if this may be utilized to add tranny fluid? Or is pumping in fluid utilizing the adapter the only way to add fluid? Mindful I am not yet due for a tranny service and would just like to get the car back on the road for the time being.

That cap on the pic is just a breather. In order to add fluid to the 722.9 there's a method to do it through the pan.

Thank you so much for the info and video. This should be fun and interesting without a lift. Is this something I can do using my Mityvac pump?
