cruise control feature

I was driving home last night, enjoying how the rain sensing wipers really did work and adjust to the changing intensity of the rain. I passed a police car, and he started following me. Nervous about maintaining the 40mph limit on this rural 2 lane highway, I kicked in the cruise control. After a while, the cruise control did something I have never encountered before on another car. When I started to accelerate while coasting downhill, the car automatically downshifted (auto of course) to use engine braking for speed control. Slick little feature....

I read that on the manual tranny, you can engage cruise control and shift gears without cruise turning off automatically ... you just have to change gears within the 2-3 second time frame. if you take longer than that... then it turns cruise off and gives you control of the car... pretty nifty feature i thought...

has anyone tried it?

Yep...Cruise control works during upshift AND downshift...as long as you dont take more than 2 seconds to do it

...and I *like* it! Best-working cruise control I've ever tried (can only compare with American models and one Mitsubishi).

Our Dodge Intrepid auto cruise works the same with the shifting down to slow the car.

I remember reading in the manual that the multi display would change to MPH when engaging cruise control. Sofar my car does not do that. Does anyone's?

So far no one has seen the MFD change when cruise control is engaged.

Only the CL, S-class, and new SL have that feature.
