Mercedes Benz C180 203
MB God please help me!!

My Mercedes Benz C180 203 has suffered from a flat battery..
The battery is fairly old and I left my lights on resulting in it going flat..
I have purchased a new battery..
Everything is working (lights, windows, cluster etc.) except the car won’t start or even crank ):
any help is greatly appreciated

Did you connect positive to the battery first? If you connected negative first, you might've blown something.

Thanks for reply mate..Yes I’m aware that might cause an issue..
luckily with all vehicles when removing battering I always remove positive first then the negative.
and replacing battery negative before positive.

^ Shoot. You may be screwed. For these cars it is mandatory that positive is connected first. Check your fuses. Hopefully your front SAM isn't blown.

Do you know which fuses I am looking for off the top of your head? And it’s a manual would I be able to roll start it to get it home?

I wouldn't be able to tell you off the top of my head. However there is a fuse box map. For the front SAM it would be either in the manual or inside a folded up paper slip inside the dash. To access this piece of paper, peel back the side panel of the dash, above your L knee (when sitting in the driver's seat) and behind the headlight switch. I assume your car is LHD.

Does the steering wheel lock disengage when you stick the key in? If it does, I would imagine the car can be push started as it sounds like the car is at least recognizing the key.

Check starter fuse, 50 something! Connecting the negative first will have no effect on the systems

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
Starter relay, (if it is) bang with a piece of pipe, it will start.
In my case, a 3 ft piece until I got it fixed.
Also any time you put in a new part, and then have problems that could be
attributable to that part, don't assume the new part isn't bad.
Pull the battery, and have it tested.

It's a folded paper that slides into the fuse box on the side of the dash

you obivously mean bang the starter motor don’t you?
in my case on this car I don’t think accessible from top..I would have to remove the cover underneath the vehicle

Look for the 3 pin plug clipped on at the airmass sensor, find the violet wire. That wire goes to solenoid of the starter. Check for 12v there when you crank.

Not true at all. For these cars it is MANDATORY to connect positive first. Many have cooked their front or rear SAMs by not doing so, and that's when all these weird problems suddenly pop up. Not sure about the starter specifically, but people have permanently lost the usage of headlights, wipers, and turn signals among other things after a battery change by connecting the wrong wire first.

Why MB designed their electronics to be so easily fried is completely beyond me. Keeps the parts department busy I guess.
