W203 1.8 a/c problem
#2
Leaving work, didn't get out of the parking lot, I noticed an unusual bump in my travels that slowed me down then became normal. I smelled burning rubber. I first suspected serpentine. I shut off the car, popped the hood...serpentine good...smell went away. A/C never worked again. I've tried the a/c reset via the press/hold recirculate/defrost buttons. Nothing working. I've checked the a/c related fuses, all good, refrig gas is good, is there a relay?
IMO, the compressor locked up and there's some sensor that tells to not engage the clutch again??? Help.
USA 2004 c230 variable clutch or not? What's stopping the system from trying again to engage?

There is no clutch, the compressor is always turning. When the compressor fails internally the pulley has some rubber bushings inside designed to fail in order to protect the serpentine belt. Your compressor is toast, time to replace it.
