Got an e-mail back from Wanda saying Steve was out of the country and would be back next Wednesday. She said that he can get them but no details on pricing yet. He should have all the info available next week.

I saw this on a german forum

http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools

(I hope it appears translated in english)

They have a picture of the new grill installed, and what I could read is the installation is not so easy, must make some changes from what I could understand!!!

http://www.8ung.at/cigarettesmokingman/gril2.jpg (pic)

Anyone knows what to change or anyone installed one???

part number : EVOgrill 203 880 12 83
price: 95€ + tax(16%) I think!!!

The installation of the grille is very easy......snap clips and screws....piece of cake.

But....
The show car at the NY auto show had the "new" grille....and the "holes" just cover what appeared to be the existing slats of the regular 02-04 grille. They were not really "holes"...so it's just for appearence, and not more functional.

Will the 2005 grille really fit our older coupes? From the picture of the 2005, minus the top and bottom chrome slats, there are 4 drilled slats. Our older coupes have 3 instead.

they look the same size and the headlights havent changed size, nor has the hood. so i wouldn't see why the new grill wouldnt fit.

The 2002-2004 Coupes have one top chrome piece (# A203 880 02 83) and the grill that has 4 slats. The bottom slat has a chrome piece but it is still the same depth as the other slats, and the same color. I believe the 2005 will be an exact exchange for the earlier Coupe grills. Cost will be about $100-130 from the dealer. I will let you know, I am ordering one.

I have had my own grill off about 100 times as I am fitting a CLK grill to the opening, I like the bigger star.

how hard is it to convert the CLF grill onto the C coupe? I like the look of the bigger star but if I were to change out my current grill which i had painted to match my car, i would go with the 05 grill. im just curious.

Thanks for the info, breaststroker. Do you know how soon you will get the grille? The price seems very reasonable. I saw the older grille for sale on e-bay for ~$220.

Is installation (of the c-coupe grill, not CLK)easy? Do u need to remove the bumper at all?

Thanks.

The stock grill can be removed in less than 3 minutes, I believe a 8 mm wrench is all that is needed. There are clips on the side and a screw on the bottom.

There is no reason to remove the bumper to put the grill on.

You can remove it if you like, just for exercise.

Our cars are 4 slats if you count the bottom one.

The pics of the 2005 grill show that the 'tabs' on the bottom of the grill look different (find a pic of the grill by itself). The 2005 front bumer changed, so the mounting points for the grill may have been updated.

You can see the difference here:
CLK vs C grill
The 2005 grill has the same tabs as the CLK grill, yet they are missing from the 2002-04 grill.

The photo of the 2005 grill that I posted at http://www.mbklasse.com/forums/showt...&threadid=6664

It does show three tabs on the bottom of the grill, vs. two tabs on the 02-04 grill.
The 02-04 grills also have 1/2 inch sloted dowels on each end about the second slat down.

I don't see those sloted dowels on the 2005 grill photo.

So it looks from the photo that MB has supported the 2005 grill with the upper piece that attached to the radiator support and the three slots at the bottom of the grill.

So it looks like 5 minutes with a dremmel tool to remove the middle slot protrusion on the 2005 grill, and some trimming of the other slot projections, as they look larger that than the 20-04 grills.

For those of you who want to chance it, the 2005 Coupe grill part number is A 203 880 12 83 and price is $118.90

Dealer doesn't know how soon the part will be available, hopefully soon.
