'05 C240 In The Family Now!

Well, my sister enlisted me to help her buy a car and after deciding on the new G35 sedan we decided to do one last stop at the BMW and MB dealerships. Long story short, the BMW dealership in Signal Hill had the worst salespeople so we left there in a hurry. Then we went down two lots to MB Long Beach and had a much different reception. My sister had gone a week ago and drove a C230K but wasn't thrilled with the 4 cylinder engine. This time we tested a C240 and liked it much better. Then the guy tells us he has a few 2005's in the back but isn't supposed to sell these yet as they are reserved for other people. Well, we got one. Silver with black leather interior, bi-xenons, sunroof, cd changer and possibly some other options but can't remember.

Here are some pics, sorry some are dark but it's nighttime over here...

I think the non sport's with the facelift look much better than the sports with the facelift....

Amg bodys should only go on AMG's

LOOks very nice like the color combo

the wheels are nice to.

I REALLY like the new bumpers on the facelift, and the new sterio and climate setup.

Is the car that much more smooth, though? I'm still not understanding why people still choose the 240, but then I haven't driven them one right after the other. (nor would I want to pay more for less, no matter how smooth, but that's just me)

Damn, that radio's gonna be a mess to swap out with a din-sized aftermarket head unit, for anyone who does it.

Test drove both C230k vs. C240 at C-spot and I personally prefer C230k:

1. C230k sports pack has lower sticker.
2. C230k has more hp.
3. C230k has AMG kits, springs/ shocks, croxx-drill brakes, 3 spokes steerling wheel and C32 AMG sports front seats.
4. Better gas milage?!

But the engine sounds pretty bad...huge metal clicking sound.

C240 is for people not into sports but comfort. It's pretty slow and soft for my taste.
One more reason I will not take C240 is because all the loaners @ my dealer is C240.

It's the 4-Cylinder vs. V6 issue. My sister had a V6 for 6 years and it's very noticable to her.

Thanks Tyler. As much as I know about w208's, w211's and w220's I went into the dealership with very little knowledge of w203's. My point is I was very impressed with the facelift and also a little surprised.

I have a great training manual the salesguy had on his desk that covers each of the differences.

Oh yeah, this guy was real down to earth and friendly. Actually, as I walked around the lot a total of three different salespeople made sure that I was being helped and asked if I had any questions. At the BMW dealership, the one salesguy that started to help us took off and never came back. 20 minutes later we see him taking another family on a test drive in a used Mini Cooper. Needless to say we were furious and left after a quick test drive with another rude salesperson.

Yes, the new headunit is beautiful. Never cared too much for it based on pictures of the newer w220 but seeing it in person made me a believer. It just looks so much cleaner and fits in well with the car.

I kinda figured that but there was two ladies looking at it earlier and they were debating between the 240 and a 230k. After we went ahead and ******ed the 240 they decided they wanted it. Long story short, our salesguy had to tell them that we already took delivery so the dealership would have to do a search for another Silver '05 240. :p

If anyone is in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, I would definitely recommend this dealership. If you go there, ask for Gabriel and tell him Brian sent you (believe me he won't forget who I am after the stuff I put him through).

To be honest, I didn't drive the 230K so I'm not sure but my sister seems to be able to tell the difference. After test driving the C230K she was really not impressed and wasn't even going to pursue any of the MB lineup. After I got her to test drive a 240 she was sold and fell in love.

As far as the headunit you're right, it's going to be hard to swap out. Good thing she loves it and will never have to worry about that.

Congrats!

BTW: I never liked the wood trim in cars before, but after seeing your pictures of the Laurel Wood Trim it has changed my mind!

It looks amazing...

Congrats!

Congratulations Brian on the new ride. That new facelift looks sharp. You make me miss my old C320.

I recently sold my CLK55 and I am now currently looking at buying a C-Class, not sure which one yet though. One thing that I really do not like about the C230 is its interior trim that looks like a tin can. I'd much prefer wood in the C240 or C320. Too bad they don't offer the wood trim option on the sedan. Whenever I see that aluminum interior it reminds me of a Chevy Malibu rental car I had. The exterior of the C230 does look nicer though...

Sold your CLK55 for C320/240? You joking right?

I guess is all about personally preference. My C32 has the Aluminum "Tin Can" insert and my C320 has the "plastic" wood insert. All my friend prefer the "Tin Can" over the "plastic" wood.
Afterall, it's a sport sedan. If MB does offer "plastic" carbon fiber, that will be even great.

Nope, not joking. If you really want I can explain why, but it is a long story and probably not that interesting.

Yes, it does all come down to personal preference. I mentioned that I can’t stand the aluminum because there were a couple people here saying that they couldn’t understand why anyone would ever want a 240 instead of a 230. They are different cars for different people.
