Extended Warranty discontinued
Isn't the MB extended warranty expensive already? I'd rather keep the money, invest it (ok, blow it on other things), and deal with the car when it's off warranty. Makes more sense to me, to tell you the truth.
Extend the warranty? I can barely control myself from screwing with the stereo and doing performance mods now, and I've got 3 1/2 years until the factory warranty dies. I can't imagine extending that torture!

At Moe's, Barney suggests that Homer volunteer as a medical subject to make money. Homer takes this advice. At the research facility, Homer discovers that a crayon lodged in his brain has been the cause of his subnormal intelligence. Dr. Hibbert makes a quick entrance, explaining that he always has held Homer's numerous head X-rays with his fingers covering the crayon.
The crayon is removed and Homer begins to live the life of a man with a 105 IQ. Although he grows much closer to Lisa, he is otherwise alienated, especially after his safety report results in the closing of the plant. Even the nice codpiece he rigged for Karl is thrown in his face, as it “can't feed [Karl's] family.” Homer decides that he was better off before the removal of the crayon. He goes to the research facility and requests that they reinsert the crayon. The researchers refuse but agree to provide Homer with the name of a doctor who will. At this point, I was expecting Dr. Nick. Surprisingly, it is Moe. His card even reads something like, “Yes, he's a doctor.”
Homer employs his friend, bartender, and now surgeon. Moe pulls out the crayon a little. Homer chants "Defense, defense" like an idiot. Not enough. Moe pulls it all the way out. Moe knows that the procedure is a success when Homer says, “Extended warranty, how can I lose?”

I have never bought an extended warranty no matter how little it cost nor how nervous I was about the item.
Unless the Mercedes extended warranty comes with scheduled maintanence, it does not seem like that spectacular of a deal. Presumably, if the warranty costs an extra couple thousand on a C230K, that money could be much better invested for the future costs of repairs.
Most products tend to fail right at their delivery or near the absolute tail end of their lives. So, to cover years 5-7 is probably not the smartest move.
Just an opinion,
CP
Also, is this for the premium coverage?, Do have their prices for each of years 1-4 handy? If not, I will inquire and post.
You can also get a 2 or 3 yr option for less. I went for the 2 yr so I have a total 6 yr/100,000 mi. warranty since I drive 25,000 miles a yr. Cost was $1,380
An AC "E core" job entails about 22 hours labor and a 800.00 part ... looking at 2300.00 at a good price
Idle control relay - about 750.00 part alone ... and these are low tech items
This thing has six computers... think what those would cost and I don't think the aftermarket boys will be much help with those!
I could go on....
Needless to say, the 2500.00 sent for the prem. extended warranty could be the bargin of the year. This car has a lot of expensive things to go wrong.
I bought a warranty rather than the c7 package... a much better investment.
Most importantly, ask yourself this: would MB offer these if there were no profit motive to them?
I'll take my C7 and no extended warranty, thanks. After all, in a short 3 1/2 years, I'm adding amps, subs, new speakers, a pulley, new suspension, and I'm sure some other goodies that will not be covered under warranty anyway.
See what that 2500 would be worth in 4 years, and you'll see the true opportunity cost of all of that money. Peace of mind don't come cheap!
Ted: look at the probabilities of these things happening. It's pretty low.
Today the vaniety light mirror light did not work. This seems like a major problem to me. Seat belt is one thing, but beauty tools, now that is too much. I want a lawyer!:p
Doesn't happen on Orion blue cars...right?
But, I do think that MB would not sell them if they did not make a profit.
Beth, I really don't think that your post was that good that it needed to be said twice.
uggghhhh. Sorry, I'll remove one.
Thanks for the helping. Tommy, I just cleaned out my mailbox, will you send me a test to see if I can recieve PMs.
Well, Ted, I wish you well on your investment.

That's pretty impressive tommy, most women my parts have such an attitude i'd have a tough time getting away with what you said.
Interesting info about the extended warranty. Seems even less worth the $$ now.

Just off the top of my head, here is a short list which the extended warranty does NOT cover;

These are some of the things I found out too when researching the MB warranty. There are better warranty plans out there, I just wish Mercedes had them.
