I have to use the knob. Anyway, those are my only issues so far.
I installed mine last night and it is doing the same thing. Is there a fix?

A fix for the dead air? I don't know of one. I assume it works as designed, but I dunno.

Sometimes the stereo has no output, but looks to be on even after 5-10 seconds. If I remove the key and restart it might come on with sound. Today after work I had to restart the car 4 times before the Audio 10 worked.

I've never had it not come on, but it has always had the 5 second delay. Other than that, no problems at all.

Hi, everybody!

Lucky everyone that had purchased an Audio 10 for 200 EURO's. I just won an EBay auction and paid 300 EURO's. I think that the discussions in this forum have pushed new bidders into the German EBay.

After I won the auction, the seller told me that he couldn't believe that someone would offer 300 EURO for the radio. Lucky him too... but I'm desperate to throw away the stock radio. I still can't believe the "trashy"/ garbage sound quality of that stock radio.

What can I do with the stock radio? Does someone want to buy it?

I'll let you know my perception of the new Audio 10CD as soon as I install it.

GREAT FORUM... I've learned a lot.

Installed mine 3 days ago. Took me about an hour, most of which I spent shuttling between the driveway and the basement getting the tools, and trying to figure out how to unlock the lower clips that hold the center colsole cover. Once that was clear, the rest was a piece of cake. Now I can do it in 15 minutes, start to finish - it's that easy. I'll be putting together an online guide on the head unit swap in the near future, so check this thread for updates.

Works fine - no problems whatsoever... As for a 5 sec. delay - I believe that's what it takes the CD changer to start up, select the right disc and position the head properly into the current track - to continue from the point it had been interrupted at when the unit was last switched off.

First impressions:

Pros:

1. Vastly improved sound quality - much richer sound compared to the stock cassette unit it replaced. The lows now sound the way I'm used to when playing CDs through a home stereo system. Even with the windows down the lows are still decent. The stock unit had very tinny lows in comparison. All this leads me to believe that the whole Bose sound system was designed around the Audio 10 receiver.

2. Front load single-CD unit - have always liked them.

3. RDS - not that it matters a lot in the US, but still nice to have

Cons:

1. No DSP features (Driver, Speech, Ambient,Off). Actually, I had always had mine set at Driver as providing the best sound quality, which still was no match to that the new unit provides.

2. No numeric keypad - those with the phone option may find this inconvenient (there is a system message for that: "Remote missing", or something to that effect when you select Phone using the steering wheel controls. With the old unit the message was "No Phone").

3. Only 8 FM stations preset capacity instead of 10;

4. Funky AM, doesn't work well in the US (no big deal for me personally, as I don't listen to AM stations).

I've been driving with mine for a week now. I second all of Vadim's pros and cons and add the folling:

CON: No CD scan.

I didn't do my install myself, but the install time seems about right to me, the dealer did it in under 15 minutes from the time the took my key till the time I drove away.

U.S.?

So is the Audio 10 CD available at all here in the U.S.? I've just finished calling all the Mercedes dealers in Houston and they all claim that such a thing does not exist. Thanks for all your help.

Just read this same thread from the beginning. Or look up "audio" in "w203" section. Tons of info.
Audio 10 is not sold in the US by MB dealers.

It does not support CD text. It will show the song name, artist and station name on the dash for radio stations that support RDS. In my area that's about 1/2 the stations I listen to. It's actually very distracting and I have it turned off most of the time.

i have the bose sound and the six disc. aside from a little better sound, what is the advantage of getting an audio 10? how different is the sound quality with the Bose system? i really dont care about losing radio stations, but i do use my cassette for my clie mp3 player. can i use a fm modulator to send the sound to the new audio 10 if I buy one? what about using two fm modulators at once for two different sound sources, has anyone tried this???

I also already had the 6 CD changer but the much better sound quality and the convenience of just throwing in a CD was worth the effort for me. I never used the cassette anyway. To quantify the sound, image a stock non-Bose setup with the Bass and Treble set at 10, that would sound like a Bose set at 8 and on the Audio 10 set at 5. It just gives you the flexability to crank up the bass and treble when you need it.

Pascal (IrvineC32) just put in a 10 CD MP3 changer in his car (with Bose and 6 CD Changer) using RF and he's happy. Just scan through today's posts.

Don't know about 2 RF inputs but why not as long as they both don't transmit on the same frequency.

RDS = Radio Data System (?). Some stations broadcast "meta-info" in parallell with the regular AM/FM-broadcasts. This can be in form of station-names, commercials etc. etc that will appear in the display.

Yes, my Audio 10 co-exists with my MB CD changer perfectly. Pressing the CD button togles between Changer and CD. I knew it would work because in Italy, they offer an Audio 10 CD Changer combo as an option.
