What would you like to know about the new CD changer install?

The car (the North American ones at least) comes pre-wired with the 3-pin power cable for the changer. I bought my changer off a guy who included the required (2) fibre cables. If your car has nothing else in the loop (voice control, Tele-Aid etc.) then it's a very simple addition as the fibre simply has to go between the head unit (radio) and changer in both directions. I assume you don't have any of those other modules in your vehicle.

Any connector pieces for the fibre loop can be picked up at the dealer, though you shouldn't need any.

The 3-pin electrical wire is taped to another wire behind the radio. There is nothing in the glove box initially. During CD changer installation, a rectangular hole has to be cut in the side of the glove box with side cutters. There's an existing cutout. Both the electrical wire and fiber line are then fed through the hole.

There's no reason why the Alpine unit shouldn't work. However you'll probably have to redo the speaker connections. Whether or not the steering wheel buttons work is a totally different matter. Supposedly some exist out there but the Alpine would need to support this as well.

MB’s of all kinds.
For the 2001-2004's go aftermarket 100%. They are so old and out of date the only way to do what you really want is to go aftermarket and just replace the head unit.

Should be easy and inexpensive to find a CD changer in a u-pull it place.

If/when you find one and remove it, you’ll see how it goes back in. In general, the harnesses for these cars usually include the wiring for optional accessories.

I have one but don’t use it much any more. What I’d really like is an inexpensive audio AUX. The facelift cars (>2005) only need a cable running from the wiring chase under the passenger door sill to the glovebox. I wish there was something like this for pre-facelift.

I have the orange fiber wire connected to my radio but i can find where it goes to connect the other side to the cd changer , unless I need another Fiber cable to Add it as an extension

I tried to follow to orange wire to see where it goes but couldn'T , is it normal ? do you think it s already connected somewhere Or I can just pull it out and connect it to the cd changer

I couldn't find where the power cable has to be connected behind the radio what do you think

Does your car have any of the other accessories (Tele Aid, cell phone) installed?

If not, it's a very simple installation. Just make the 2 orange (fibre optic) lines run between the the radio and CD changer. I do remember the existing orange lines coming out of the back of the radio doing almost nothing useful. Iirc they just terminated somewhere nearby and they put an end cap on it.

If the fibre connectors are incorrect (straight vs 90 degree etc) or you need need to join (end to end splice) 2 lines, the dealer has all the required connectors for a few bucks. Every length of fibre has a red end and a white end. In other words, the red end of a fibre line coming out of radio should connect as a white end at the CD changer.

As a tip, the weird rectangular tube once you cut open the glove box hole simply curves downwards and opens up into the space behind the radio. Route your fibre lines through there.

As for the 3 pin CDC power connector, I found mine wrapped up (strip of felt tape) along one of the cables that fed into the radio. Just dig around once the radio is removed. I'm pretty sure your car would have this. Unbundle it then feed it through the same rectangular tube into the glove box.

Thanks a lot
So since I already Have the orange cable behind my radio, this means that What I Need is this :
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-C...97.m4902.l9144
If so, what about the Power Wire behind the CD changer ( see picture in my last Post ) ? do you know if it has to be pluged in the back of the radio too or somewhere else ?

Thanks a lot

That is correct, you need the orange fibre lines between the radio and CD changer. The product in the link looks correct. The dealer or a wrecker should also carry this.

The power cable behind the radio needs to be unwrapped then fed through that rectangular tube (goes into the glove box) then into the back of your CD changer. It goes into the plug "A" in your photo. It's already powered, as prewired from the factory.

Has your radio wiring been hacked? I see electrical tape that shouldn't be there.

so for the power cable DO I need to take from the wires in the back of the radio and that s it ? if so , I guess I Should just buy a similar color and make an extension from the back of the radio to CD changer passing through the whole , right ?

My radio was not hacked as i Know ...

The power cable is wrapped up behind the radio somewhere. Check the wiring back there carefully for that 3 pin connector.

That's not it. The connector I am thinking of has only 3 wires and the termination is identical to the one seen in your plug A. There was no modification required other than unwrapping the bundle. Keep looking.

Those fibres in the trunk are for other modules such as the cell phone and voice control module which you probably don't have. No need to touch those, but also do not rip out the lines. The options I mentioned are installed in the back of the car and can be added in the future if desired, in which case you'll need those lines.

The last 2 photos are the power and antenna and fibre connections for the (way obsolete) V60 cell phone option, which your car doesn't have. There is an aftermarket Bluetooth puck that works the same way and is compatible with your stock radio, called the Argos MB-1 by Eiskits. I think the company went under, so if you want this thing you'll have to look on eBay. I have this puck installed and it does the job but the stock microphone in the car (tucked up in the vent in front of the mirror) is a bit lacking.

For now, simply attach the fibre lines from the CD changer to the radio using the small loop you have. Follow the fibre lines currently plugged into the radio and you may find some of them actually terminate at a splice a short distance (talking 0.3m or so) away. In any case, open up the plastic plugs (the black trapezoidal pieces, not the white/red fibre ends) and create a fibre loop between the CDC and radio. The white end from the radio goes into the red end of the CDC, and vice versa. Shine a flashlight into the end of the cable to make sure you have the correct piece in your hand before reassembling the connectors.

I remember I needed a (1) fibre end-to-end connector to properly join 2 lengths of cable to join the existing line to the CDC fibre harness. Picked one up at the dealership for a few bucks.

Picture 1 shows the fibre splice connector. Guess your car has an extra one. Personally I recommend simply buying another one as you'll now have some loose fibre ends flopping around if you use those ones, which you may end up regretting later if they get damaged and you end up needing them. But it's up to you. All I'm saying is just make sure all fibre ends are protected either with a connector or cap when the job is complete.

The labels may give a hint to what the where the ends of the cable go, but they're mostly irrelevant as long as you use whatever you have there to complete the loop.

I just noticed that your Picture 2 has a splice connector already. Open that up and remove the 2 fibres to get 2 loose ends. Now join the 2 loose ends to the radio using the existing lines and connectors behind the radio. You may need that splice connector to add a short fibre piece to the end. I remember there were a couple of short fibre lines (they went nowhere) behind the radio when I opened mine up. Remember, a white end connects to the red end of the next fibre line. It is always white to red, white to red. If you're short a black connector, the dealer will also have them. They are sold in straight or 90 degree configurations. They also sell caps for those connectors to protect the ends of unused lines.
