05 C230k 1.8L 6 speed Disappearing coolant
Good morning!
New to the forums as well as being a Benz owner. Been searching like a mad man for information to my issue.
Recently purchased at 188k, was already experiencing an overheating issue... now its drinking coolant faster than I can buy it. No leaks on the ground. No engine bay leaks (that I can see), car also is throwing misfire codes from all 4 cylinders (pending full tune up).
The car fan engages after about 10minutes of the car being started and has ran hot previously (no overheat just redlined).
Any ideas on where to search? I've came across the possibility of the transmission cooler lines being faulty seeing as The coolant literally DRAINS as the car is running.
Thanks in advance, happy holidays!

Great looking car. The manual transmission cars are hard to find.
I was under the impression that the manual transmission cars did not have transmission cooler lines, but I could be wrong.
I suggest that you look at the oil filler cap and see whether there are any signs of coolant getting into the oil. There will be a substance that is often referred to as "mayonnaise" that is a tell-tale sign. If you have that situation, you may need to replace your head gasket.
Good luck and I hope it is nothing serious.

Sorry to hear that. How long have you had the car? Do you have any recourse with the seller?
Are you planning to repair the car? I noticed Virginia license plates on your car. If you are in Central VA, I can suggest a shop that won't take advantage of you.

Definitely plan to keep. With that being stated, I am in the region and would love to check out your resource, highly appreciated.
The car was purchased from Auction. $800. I'm not deterred one bit! Are there any other applications that could possibly fit the 6 speed tranny in these vehicles? I'm aware its RWD... and the kompressor isnt really a powerhouse? Nonetheless. The current one will be repaired until I figure out the logistics of things.

I sent you a private message with the phone number of my mechanic.
Fortunately, you didn't pay much for the car so even if the repair is fairly expensive (which I'm fairly sure it will be) you will still have a nice car for less than the cost of 4 average car payments.
Good luck.

MBWorld Fanatic!
If there’s going to be that much work and time put into it, if it hasn’t been done - I’d throw a new timing chain on it. Then replace any $12 hoses or cheap parts of the evap/pcv that might be dry rotted. Then triple check the cam leads for pig tail extensions...
Agree, great looking car with factory xenon and a manual. Love it!

Another issue you will need to check is whether any of the previous owners completed the Takata air bag recall. I suggest that you access this web site: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and put in the Vehicle Identification Number to confirm if it was completed. Your air bag cover and the steering wheel controls look worn, and that is evidence that it may not have been done. It doesn't cost anything for the dealer to do the work and you receive a nice new air bag cover and steering wheel control buttons as an added benefit.
