Hey everyone. Last night I purchased a 2005 C-230 SS. As an option, I have the h/k system. That means that there is a speaker in the center dash. When I turn the "LOGIC 7" on when playing a CD, The center speaker distorts very easily and does not keep up with the other speakers in sound reproduction. This morning, I took it to the dealer and they have to order a new speaker. Did anyone elese have this problem. Because I'm not sure the speaker is actually blown. I don't know what to do.

I am also having a wierd problem with the center speaker, for certain reason there is a distortion sound on certain songs. What do you mean turn Logic 7 on, do you mean turn on the surround sound.

The sticker was $39,220. Out the door, I paid $36,500. The LOGIC 7 is the surrond setting for the H/K system. Were they ever able to fix your problem?

I dont have any distortion with my HK system, the LOGIC7 sounds awesome also.

LOL, welcome to the world of distorting HK sound. The BMW owners have been complaining for a while.

best thing to do is select the cheapest audio system option for the car. then afterward install an aftermarket system. i have never experienced any good stock audio in any car

Well, i have heard the HK in the 3 series and to me the mercedes one sounds better. I also do not have any distortion at any volume at all. Sounds great to me.

good to hear that, HK "upgrade" in my 3 series was crap as well. abosolute crap. A relative is an engineer for HK Group, and while the Toyota/Lexus and some domestic applications are fabulous (esp MarkL setup) the other applications dont get the same attention, and it shows.

So, what ended up happening? Has the new center speaker come in? If so, did it fix it? I'm having distortion on some songs with the center speaker as well, and I'm not sure if the speaker is blown.
Also, I was playing around with the bass and treble settings, and that seemed to help somewhat (I increased both to 7 and 6 respectively). Thanks.

usually, wouldn't the sound distort if the treble/bass settings are too high? How about trying to set them to zero?

When I set them to zero they still had the distortion. Even at low-medium volumes. When I turned the settings higher, it seemed to get better, but I dunno...

thats why i get the cheap stock audio.. then get aftermarket speakers.. such as diamond audio,MBQ or focals... w/ JL subs... perfect!!!

If the sound is distorted at zero level bass/trebele, then my only guess is that this is a album/song specific problem. DDD recordings sholdn't have a problem, but the distortion is more likeley on AAD or ADD recordings. There's no distortion until you activate the surround feature, right?

DDD = pure digital recordings as opposed to something that was originally analog, then remastered to digital, then recordon onto a CD (ADD)

AAD means it's basically the same sound quality as an audio cassete, but recorded onto a CD (that's what the last "D" is for in AAD).

Looks like the modern CD's no longer show DDD, AAD, or ADD on the back of the case anymore....

if it's recorded withint the past 5 years, it should be a digital recordinhg.; If you're playing songs from early 90s and earlier, it could be ADD. (Analog, Digitally remastered, Disc)

Cool, thanks for the explainations! But, I don't think that's the problem. The CD's that I'm getting distortion on are from the past 3 years at max, and they're not remastered recordings. I'm not sure wtf is going on with the distortion.

If you get a chance, go to Love mercedes tour this weekend and bring the CD with the distortion. Play it on one of the display cars equipped with H/K and see if you can reproduce the distortion on those tracks. Or, you can do this at the dealer too....

Yes, I am going to LMT Saturday. Actually, I went today as well, heh, but didn't stay too long.

There were 3 SL 500's in rotation, 2 SLK 350's, one CLK 500 cabriolet, one CLK 500 coupe, and one CLK 320 cabriolet for the "fun in the sun section."

The tires on the S class models (I drove the S430, and the S500 4matic) were really lousy/worn down. it was VERY easy to make the tail spin out. This didn't happen to me at all in Alameda. Luckily I didn't hit any cones, but the previous driver left some cones knocked down in the middle of the track. I hope they change the tires to fresh ones for tomorrow.

I can't get enough of the SLK 350 though. You'll really like it a lot

After almost waiting for 3 weeks, the dealer is going to replace the center speaker and the front left speaker on wednesday. Hopefully I will be able to enjoy the music. I had no problem with HK on my old BMW, dont know WTF is wrong with this system.

was searching for this. I just HAD this problem today with my 07. I was so pissed i drove to dealer right away. What's even worse was when the SA came, it disappeared. Totally made me look like a fool. Anyway, if it happens again i won't turn the radio off and just go get them right away.
