Anyone else like the old CLK better?

Sort of off topic, but I saw a new CLK today, and it left me sort of cold. Classy looking no doubt, but seemed devoid of character. The old CLK (really only with the AMG kit on the 430 and clk55 amg) looked classic yet tough at the same time -- like it meant business. Even though the body style is now dated, I like it so much more than the new one, which reminds me of an Accord coupe a bit. It just sort of blends into the scenery. Pretty, but didn't give it a second look.
What do others think?

i kind of know what you mean. but i admire this new style, it's just a different look, and in it's own way, it's just as hot as the last model. it's classier and sophisticated with a bad temper. and about the accord - nothing new when the japanese take styling elements from other cars, esp. german ones.

209 is an expensive Honda Accord. Nice interior though.

i like the interior and exterior of the 209's alot. the 208 interior never did it for me. like a 2 door W202 and yes i know the similarities between the 202/208, 203/209, just my opinion.

nevertheless, i see no similarities to an accord and the CLK.

taillights, headlight, pillarless window, interior. yeah no accord reference here.

Yep, I agree. The old CLK looked like it was made from a solid block of metal. The new CLK is very girly-looking and not muscular-looking at all, imho (sorry, ViK!).

Of course, the interior of the old CLK did look "old", like a blast out of the early 80s. The new one's better, but I'm not a fan of either.

Ehh, as much i love my CLK430, its really VERY outdated, just looking at it side by side to a CLK500 makes my 430 round headlights looks really old. And the interior is VERY outdated! I used to like the 208s alot better. But now i am seeing the light i think :p. It was very much due for an update.

I can see what your saying, It takes time to appreciate the smooth silky lines of the W209. Its a big departure from MB styling. But come on the W209 make the W208 look like a car from the mid 80s(Yawn). The front of the 209 is much more sportier and nicer. Its just the back that everyone seems to hate, but it looks good in dark colors. Most enthusiasts, machochists, and old schoolers hate the 209. Everyone in the public loves it. I personally like the 500 and 55 models.

The front of the 209 500/55 is incredible! Looks really similar to a SL front to me.

the front styling of the W209 is remarkably similar to the R230.

I'm not sure the public likes it much, the W208 sold much better. (I think because it looked like an equally expensive W210, and not the W203 the way the W209 does).

It's funny, I like the looks of the W209 DTM race car better than the W208 version, but I like the exterior of the W208 roadcar more than the W209.

Each has their own positive points.

The interior of the W209 is beautiful. I think all the new interiors are very nice, especially the way the dash and instrument panel has been redesigned. I sat in a 500SL right after the new models came out and I nearly fell out of the seat. The buttons and instrument panel were exquisite.

For a guy, I prefer the exterior look of the W208. Like previously mentioned, it looks mean/aggressive. The W209 has more of a feminine shape (no offense to anyone). It'd be great to have my W208, and then a W209 for my wife in the garage. Wait a minute, I don't have a wife, damnit!!! Time to spend less time on the job, lol.

Cheers,

Dominik

Yes, the C-coupe is girly. The SL is cool but it's also due to the fact that the back is much more agressive looking and the lines are much more low slung than the 209.

The 208 was a much bigger seller than the 209. Any dealer will tell you that (this only applies if you're friends with the dealer and they're not trying to sell you one lol).

And the 209 doesn't make the 208 look old, just better in comparison ;0) If only the 209 looked like a 2 door version of the 211 and not the 203....sigh

Vik, I'm not bagging on your car (or anyone else's 209 for that matter). Like I said - I like the interior, and with a nice drop, a set of Carlsson ultralights, and the right lip spoiler to "de-bit¢h" that rear end it wouldn't look half bad...

I liked the 208 better but to each there own.....For some reason when i looked at the new one in the dealer i couldnt stand the way it looked from the side the crease goes up then right back down really annoyed me...It seemed to "bowed"

And i dont think my car looks "girly" .....

Well, it seems like people were saying it before the C55 was even out. And just out of curiosity, what does the C55 share with the CLK front? I dont see it?

They dont. Even magazines and car reviewers who constantly bash mercedes-benz (ala edmunds, C&D) praise the styling of the 209, saying that is sleeker and more upscale then before with its lack of B Pillar and SL front end.It somewhat resembles a C coupe, but the CLK star is larger and the headlights are alot better looking the the C coupe. CLK looks nothing like the C sedan.

I dont really get this Girly thing? That means you wont buy 360 ferrari or a viper because of its sleek styling? Please go buy a G wagon or a hummer or a Titan truck for you manly desires.
