The spring pads for the W203 are rears only. They are numbered one through four. Look under the pad and you will see the corresponding number of dots molded into the rubber.

One dot pads are 8mm thick
Four dot pads are 23mm thick

The other two, I presume, are spaced evenly between.

Are the spring pads available on order from the dealer? Or will they be found on a website or auto store? Part name please, part # if possible.

Get them at the dealer under "spring pad for ....". They will know what you are talking about.

I was told shim perch (spring pad) varies from each car, depends on your car's options. Some car have Dot 2, some have Dot 3. Dot 1 is the thinnest, Dot 4 is the thickest. Are you sure you wanna drop it further? I have Dot 4 on my car before, look at my drop on the C32 pic thread. I think it will be too low if you drop it further. Mind you, you can only drop the rear, the front doesnt have pads.

rear spring pad change

when changing the rear pads (ie. #4 to #1), is it a simple unbolt of struts and bolt back on, or do you need to use a spring compressor and remove everything and then reinstall as if changing springs. i want to do it myself but if i need a mechanic to do it then forget it. anyone have instructions? thanks.

The rear does not have struts. The proper way to change the rear pad would be to use the MB spring compressor, but it can be done without one. It just requires a jack and removing a control arm bolt.

depends...

there are 4 different thicknesses. are you trying to lower or raise your car?

Just go out and buy all 4 sets from the dealership and return whatever you don't use.

interesting...what exactly are spring pads and how much could they lower/raise the car? I'm hoping to lower the front ever so slightly so the space in the front wheel well matches the (smaller) space in the rear wheel well.

There are no pads at the front - only rear. Their thickness varies from 5mm to 22mm (or 25mm - don't remember), the thinnest being "N.1" and the thickest - "N.4". N2 and N3 are somewhere in between.

The pads, as well as the springs - both front and rear - are chosen based on the options your car has, so there is no universal rule here. Spring pads are inexpensive, though, so it won't hurt to just go ahead and buy them from your dealer's parts department. Besides, you can always return them.

Question #1 and #4 PADS

Hi......

I am ordering a set of EIBACH springs from "Patrick Hunter" on EBAY for $150.00. Has anyone order items from them? Are they reputable?

anyways.... my main questions is:

I have read the threads on lowering and the common thing to do is to place the #1 PAD in the Rear Springs and the #4 PAD in the front springs.

What I want to know is WHERE I can get these PADS? Can I just go to the Merecedes Dealerships parts dept and ask for a set of #1 and #4 PADS? Will they know what I am taking about if I ask them for it? Is there are part number for these items?

Sorry if these questions seem a bit redundant....

Thanks for any help....

Like MB///HRV said, there are no spring pads on W203. Only the rears have them. The Dot 1 (#1) spring pad is 8mm thick, it goes up in every 5mm interval, the thickest one is Dot 4, which is 23mm thick.

Usually people find the front not lowered enough, but the Eibach springs should lower the front a little bit more than the rear. So, I guess you can leave the pads for now, wait and see how the install turned out and make adjustments.

oops....

sorry... i got confused there.....

I guess I'm supposed to put the Dot 4 (28mm) thick pads in the REAR and the Dot 1 (8mm) or NO pads for the front right??

Where can I get these pads?
Does using a thinner Pad no NO pad affect the car's ride?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You have to use pads in the rear. The W203 platform uses struts in the front, thus NO PADS - unlike previous platform generation that used shocks and springs (with pads) in the front.

You can't help but using pads, as they also function as upper spring cups.
