2004 C320 Sport - Buying Advice

Thinking about purchasing the 2004 C320 Sport for my son, but would like to get some thoughts from you guys on this model. Had a W211, 2003 E320 in the past, which has the same engine and was very happy with it.

The C320 has only 60K miles on it, has a clean title and appears to be super clean, has a maintenance history and comes with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports as well as new brakes front and back.

Seller will let the car go for $5300.00

THOUGHTS?

Many thanks in advance, your input is as always greatly appreciated.

It’s usually a good sign when the owner cares enough to put Michelins on it. It’s evidence that they’re not cheaping out on MX which might be the most important thing on a 15 + year old car.

Nice looking car. Maybe a bit above PP market bit it could looks like it might be worth it. Personally, I’d prefer a 2005 face lift model but this is better than a 2006 or 2007 with the potential balance shaft issues.

Thanks.
Actually, the price in my area (CA) is right on the money according to BlueBook.

The low miles and manual transmission (which my son has to have) makes the car a bit more valuable IMO. Stick Shift cars are very hard to find around here within my budget.

YES, I agree about the face-lift model, but for a first car for my Boy, I am sure this will do. Especially with these low miles and this clean. And not having to worry about the balance shaft issue is definitely a PLUS.

Manual is a big plus—I didn’t catch that.

Another plus for the face lift models is that it’s much easier to add AUX In ($30 cable). That was important to my 17 year old when we bought to 2005 C240 4Matic.

But the AUX IN can still be installed on the 2004 I would imagine.

DO IT! Its got HID projector headlights with washers which were a very rare option on this car. Looks like the suspension is aftermarket or cut springs. Sits too low to be stock. 6spd is a HUGE plus. The 3.2 M112 engine is by far the best engine they put in the W203. I own two of them in my C320 and E320 at 170k miles and 180k miles. Still going strong with very little maintainance. Too bad its not a wagon otherwise I'd jump on it.

Thank you.

It is a SPORT model, I decoded the VIN and it has the sports suspension on it. I do not believe that it has aftermarket suspension or cut springs.

If it was a facelift model, I would put on a face mask and fly out to California and buy it before you did.

If I read between the lines, I guess most of you are in favor of me buying this car, as facelift is simply a preference.

My current daily driver is a 2007 W211 facelifted E350. As I do certainly, as most, prefer the facelift, I did not hate my 2003 E320.

So based on the condition of the vehicle and the low miles, this should still be a good buy.

Assuming you all agree?

Agree
Don't let better (i.e. a facelifted version) interfere with getting something that your son should enjoy driving for several years.

BOUGHT THE CAR!

VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THIS AFTERNOON, thanks for everyone's input.

Car is located in Southern CA, I am in Sacramento, Northern CA. So, a buddy of mine who lives in Long Beach did check the car our for me and made the deal. ALL is in good working order, and the vehicle is as described. A couple of small cosmetical issues need to be addressed (Couple of nicks on the rear bumper as well as some scrapes on the bottom of the front spoiler, most likely from getting in and out of the driveway), which will be taken care off by another friend who owns a Body Shop.

My Buddy will drive the car up here, as soon as this COVID-19 thing passes, hopefully soon.

My Buddy picked the C320 up in Irvine,CA this morning, and has it now parked at his House in Long Beach. He will drive the car up to Sacramento on Friday. So, latest by 4PM on Friday, the car should be in my possesion.

VERY EXCITED!

Thanks. Car is home, rides and shifts nicely.

Needs a good detail job which Junior and I will take care of tomorrow.
Car came also with a Bluetooth phone connector, plugs into the cigarette lighter AC Outlet and works pretty well.
Needs to have a few issues addressed, like a missing front fender well plastic splash guard, but I guess these are all minor details.

Overall, pretty happy with the purchase.
