Replaced siren, now car beeps when locking / unlocking doors

As the title said. Car alarm started going off randomly. Google pointed to a bad siren as the most likely cause, Decided to try this first, as the dealer cost of the siren is not that much more than paying them to diagnose the issue. I replaced it today and now the car beeps synchronously with the blinkers when locking / unlocking the car. Why would that be? Is something else starting to go? Should I have disconnected the battery before replacing the siren? This is a 2003 US model C320 coupe that we've had since 2004.

When I replaced my siren (the siren that was in the car when I bought it had been damaged by water) my car also started to beep when I locked and unlocked it. I think that is how it is supposed to function. It wasn’t beeping prior to replacement because it was broken. I forgot whether I confirmed this by checking the manual. Another surprise came when I jacked up the car to do some work. The tow away alarm sounded. (There is a control on the dash of my 2005 that allowed me to turn it off.)

Thanks for the reply! We've had the car since it was less than one year old, and this is the first time it's beeped with locking / unlocking. The new part was different than the old one, but the dealer said it was updated and correct according to my VIN. I'll ask about it when I take a car in again.

its normal for it to beep. To switch it off you need to recode the rear sam

Thanks for the reply. I see you're in South Africa. I don't think the US models beeped - there are several threads about enabling the "Netherlands" option in DAS to enable this for US cars. Hence my confusion. (I'm in the US)

The original siren still worked - it just seemed to go off randomly. It never beeped. Unfortunately I've already put everything back when I realized the new siren beeps. Otherwise I would have swapped the old siren back to see if it now also beeps. My test after plugging in the new siren was just to activate and deactivate the panic alarm.

The coding gets written to the siren when sam is coded
so your new siren has a default setting to beep.
Change the coding in rear sam to rest of world then change it back to USA.
Good luck.
