I considered doing this mod for a friend but declined after I took a switch panel apart. There are too many led's in the car to change out. It would take days to do. I am sure if benz came with blue led's standard, people would be changing them to orange or some other color.

It would be awesome if somebody could produce a list or a kit to do the interior mod. I'd be interested in doing this mod. Those amber lights are one of the things I hate most about my interior.

I think the instrument cluster is the only white part of the S class. All switches are amber.

hmm, well all white switches and gauges would look cool. this mod would take too long just to solder all the LED's. you would have to remove every switch, button, gauge, etc. then take those apart.

I don't know. If you had everything removed and prepared to solder, a proficient solderer who knew where everything went could easily do it with in an hour or two. I have done more and was much harder to solder(a 100 LED UV Spotlight with about a 9 milimeter space between the LED's). That took about three hours. The thing would be finding the right ones. From the picture there are some pretty rare sizes to find especially in blue.

So has anybody in this forum that speaks ENGLISH hase done that mod? If so where did you get your LED's from. I have wanted to do something with those lights for a while but I didn't think you could get them out of the MFD panel. So I am happy that it is possible. That and putting real aluminum panels in the place of the plastic textured ones and the interior should be perfect.

I'll give it a shot. Just need to figure out where that guy got his LED's from. Never taken the gauges out before.

From what I can, tell my center stack is plastic unless, they coated it with a textured polyurethane. If you look real closely it doesn't actually have holes it is just a printed pattern covered with a textured clear enamal.

Well not a problem, I found another source. Gotta go do my homework on this. I have the most difficult job first of trying to figure out what the LEDs are.

Well The large lamps are the climate like he said.
The common DT-LED is for the switches
I guess by Tacho he means Tachometer and the other gauges.
The others are pretty easy to figure out.

Mr. psycho's poetry:

I would suggest, get in hold of Mr. MadC32 who lives in Zurich (that is Switzerland ). Conrad Elektronik from Germany will ship to Zurich and have him send you the kit.

The kit is a whole bunch of LEDs of all sizes and small light bulbs... once you have the kit, finding the right bulb won't be the problem, saldering it will be the more challenging part.

Mr. Sunman even posted a comment where he almost did that project himself for someone else's car.

Another option is, here in the US, there are shops, many of them where you can get the same LEDs.. .the LED themselves are not any "special"... again, removing all the parts, headliners, soldering and so forth will be the reak task.

If you can get in hold of anyone that knows how to remove the center dash, the center cluster, headlinner you have 50% of your work.

Be advised (just in case) the ruler in the picture is in Centimiters! (not inches!) and also the LEDs on the picture would produce the same amber light... (the LEDs instead of looking yelloish will look blueish --the picture was posted for purposes of showing the size of the LEDs and bulbs, not color--

Cheers!

Wiedermann
