My engine is in the effected balance shaft issue. What now?

I have a 2007 C280 and I just recently hit 90k miles. I love my car, but since finding out about this potentially costly repair, should I sell it?
30 402017 < my engine serial number

Is there a way to avoid this before it happens without spending 4k.

How are you going to sell it with this issue? Who is going to buy it, unless you will not disclose it and will find someone like yourself, who did not do their homework prior to purchasing?

I will most likely trade it in somewhere and see what they say. At the moment the car drives perfect, no check engine, and is maintained well. Someone sold it to me with this “issue” so I’d say it is very possible

Just because the engine is within the affected range, does not mean that it indeed WILL happen. It is a gamble you will take.

I see. Do you know if there is a certain mileage that this problem typically starts? I just hit 90,000.

Not sure, ......... I think right around 100K.

Maybe others will chime in.

I just read your posts again and am somewhat confused.

In your original post, you state:
"I have a 2007 C280 and I just recently hit 90k miles. I love my car, but since finding out about this potentially costly repair, should I sell it?

In your above comments, you mention: "
Someone sold it to me with this “issue”

So if you knew about it when purchasing the car, WHY did you buy it?

I did not know about it. I said that to prove to you that the car can still be sold although this issue may be present.

Got it. However, ask yourself the following question:

Would YOU buy a used car, if a seller would disclose to you that there is a potential issue which could possibly cost 4k to repair? I think not.
Unless of course you would get the car dirt cheap. Trading it in would most likely be your best option, as the car dealers don't care about selling a lemon to someone else, or putting it up for auction.
