To all of you who thinks it's impossible to lock yourself out of the car....

I stepped out of the car and closed my door, my girlfriend's door was opened but I still locked the doors cuz I was going inside, she decided to have a cigarette but didn'T have fire, so she asked for my set of key, turned the key to the on position and used the cigarette lighter...

She forgot about the key in the ignition and closed the door.. with the doors locked, Now I do have an extra key but couldn't unlock the doors with the unlock button since another key was in the ignition. And to top it all the valet key didn't work because It was my c230k (stolen) coupe's valet key.

So ended up calling roadside assistance, I asked them if it's possible to unlock the door and the guy said that's not an issue and to wait for them to come by, 45 minutes later, the guy comes over and tells me there is absolutly nothing he can do, the only thing he can open is the trunk but I don't have folding rear seats.....

Now I have my really thin wallet smartkey (which I now keep in my wallet ) home, The roadside assistance guy gave me a ride home , about 15 minutes away, but I told him not to wait for me cuz I had to look for the damn key, found the key almost an hour later and took the cab to my girlfriend's house. used the valey key and voila, I was in my little baby, still playing my favorite music album and just waiting for me.....

So this is how you can lock yourself out of your car!

i basically went through the same thing.... it was snowing out here in kcmo... a really bad storm... i went out to my car to warm it up.... few minutes later i went out to get something in my car.... for some reason i hit the lock button on the dash... unconsciously thinking that it would lock all doors except the drives...... turns out i was wrong!!! i thought i was alright because i have tel-aid... and THOUGHT that they should be about to unlock my car thru that GPS junk... BUT since the car was on... activated by the key they could not unlike my doors. i too was able to unlike my trunk to no use because i dont have the 60/40 sets... tel-aid called the local dealers 24hr roadside assis people and ATTEMPT to send them.... talking to the roadside guy (he called me from is house phone).. he told me that he cant do anything.... (which was bull****!!!!) he suggest to me to go home and get my other smartkey and use the metal key attached to it to unlock my doors..... so i did so.... got back to my car and the damn metal key would not unlike my door... i could put the key in but it would not allow me to turn it... the second time i talked to him (2hrs later) and telling him that the metal key didnt work he then suggested that i break my window!! so i called tel-aid back and told him everything that the roadside guy suggested and within a matter of minutes the roadside guy called me back and asked me for directions.... so about 4 hours after my first call to tel-aid.. the roadside guy pulls up in a white ML marked MB 24hr roadside assistance...... takes out a special slim jim... and unlocks my car in about a MINUTE.... the total time from his arrival.. unlocking the car... and departure was well under 5 minutes... the next day the MB dealer called and apologized.... and asked me to take the car in at my earliest convience to get the locks and keys fixed... and tel-aid ended up giving me the next 2 years free...
sooo..... what id suggest to everyone... is take out your metal key on your smart key and make sure that it WORKS!!!!!!!

only with the mechanical key so you have plenty of time to step on the gas, just hope she doesn't hold on to the key, we wouldn't want to drag them over to the bar

You might want to try it again I guess since we never use the mechanical key the lock may rust or something, I had my trunk lock changed because of that..

I keep my key in the car all the time when I cut the grass. Never had that happen at all, even tried it now. The car won't lock my doors when the key is inside the car. hehe

It's a 2001.... it's like the mart key except it's about 2 mm thick and there is no unlock/lock buttons, only the vallet key and the infrared key... pretty cool

the drivers door wont lock when the door is open, but if the pasenger door is open and drivers is shut and the doors are locked you could lock your keys in the car. must be a C55 thing.

the i avoid that is by keeping the metal piece with my house keys and i just use the smart by itself. I'm paranoid about locking myself out because its happend to me like twice in the past. So i have my keychain with my house keys and the metal insert key and then the smartkey by itself.
