Sunroof Package

For those of you with the sunroof package, is it a must when ordering a new 2005 c230? There is a c230 due in to a local dealership within a month with everything I want except the sunroof package. Since I plan on driving and enjoying my car, is it worth a 2 month hold out to order the car to my specific wants?

IMHO yes. A MB without the sunroof might be a lot harder to sell down the road.

I'm not a fan of sunroofs and never use mine but it will make it much harder to sell later and the sunroof package gives you other cool useless stuff like the electric rear sunshade.

It actually took me a while to find my c203K without sun roof package here in CA. Glad not to spend on the package that I don't want. The bottom line is it's worth waiting to get the car to your spec. Don't rush or settle down with the second choice, it's your car!

Sunroof

Contrary to the consensus here, I usually go out of my way to get a car WITHOUT a sunroof. Resale is a bit lower, but never low enough to offset the cost of the roof in the first place. And it most certainly does not kill your ability to sell the car - there are plenty of people out there who feel as I do - the roof simply cuts headroom, adds complexity, and is another thing to go wrong [all early buyers of C-coupes with the Pano-roof can chime in here with your stories of creaks, groans, cracks and misc noises].

As the car ages, miles and condition are the only things that matter in the retail market. When I shop used for anything over 5 years old, all I care about are those two factors [and the presence of verifiable service records].

Still, like all these questions, this is a matter of taste and preference, and you should always try to get what you want. I don't consider this the religious issue that some people make it out to be - we have the roof pkg on our '02 C240 because it was a year-end deal, heavily "incented", and I couldn't get it any other way. And, I'm one of those rare people on this board who has been buying Mercedes cars long enough to remember when it was NOT considered routine for these kinds of cars to have holes cut in the roof. My first 5 MBs in fact did not have a sunroof, then gradually this became a "mandatory option" in which it became almost impossible to find a car without it. Suit yourself, in any case...

the creaks and groans of the pano roof is from the size of the opening. granted going in and out of parking lots the roof will creak but ive grown accustomed to it. basically a frame with a large hole in the top. the sedan would not have such noises. plus i havent had any problems with my roof opening or closing.

plus if someone doesnt use the roof, then less likely for it to break.

There is one thing I like about the sunroof even though I don't use it for it's intended purpose. You can pop the rear of the sunroof to vent the car on hot days. I can tell you from 3 months of trying to sell my car, the number one thing they ask is does it have leather, next is sunroof.

I agree that a sunroof/moonroof is a must.... some options are worth it even if I rarely use them.

On the other hand, I hated taking the targa top off my porsche when I had it. I hate taking the t-tops of my 300zx but I enjoy the open air feeling... For me the best solution is the sunroof/moonroof/popup I have in my C320.... Not to mention that adding a sunroof to a car without one is not a good option.......

Last.... the car coming without the sunroof in a month, if it is available one month after it has been on the dealer lot, can be had at a great deal. I would start my offer at $2750 under invoice. If they accept it fine, if not then I wait for the sunroof the next month..

Sunroof it is. I have waited 25 years for my mercedes. Whats another month or two for the exact car I want. If all goes well, I should be ordering my car tommorrow from Smythe European (San Jose, Ca.)
Granite Grey Metallic, 6-speed manual, Leather, Lighting Package, Entertainment Package, Sunroof Package, Comand, split-rear seat.

Dave, isn't there another Mercedes dealer in between? I like Smythe European(where I purchsed mine a month ago), but isn't that too far from you?(assuming your id represents where you live)

jinijazz, Smythe is a 20 minute drive from my house. I live in the east bay. I do have a dealer very close by which is Claridges, but Smythe has my vote when it come to customer service.

Get Sunroof and all other options that you want to get. Because if you don't then you will eventually add them later. I wish I bought my car fully loaded with Xenons, Comand, and voice phone. I didnt so now I have to retrofit them. Lucky we have Steve who has exeptional prices.

I had good service with Smythe Porsche, but don't know about Smythe MB. I can find out this Friday after the first service with them... Can't wait to see which loaner I will get

Anyway, good luck with your purchase, keep us updated!
