tools? just a screwdriver to pry up the doorsill panel

 

You'll need a flat head screwdriver to pull up the door sill panel and to pop out the screw cover on the side kick panel. Then you'll need a phillips head to unscrew the one screw holding the side kick panel on. You might also use the flat head to pry off the side panel to the right of the glove compartment, but it comes off pretty easily.

What are the options for a 2006 C230 with Sirius, but no changer (only dash)? Can I still get the AUX in?

I was considering the iPod integration kit, but after using it on my sister's '07, I came away completely frustrated. I'd rather use the iPod to control the system.

 

My '07 C230 with CDC does not have the white plug!

 

Guys, this is the easiest install ever, and I have a history of breaking stupid plastic parts when working on my car. When I put it back together, it fit just like before. On my 2006, the white connector was right where it should have been. You just have to peel back some hard plastic to get to the bundle of wires.

There are three pieces to remove, and the lower sill piece does not even have to come out - just pull it up enough to get to the pillar piece (the next piece). That one comes out completely, and so does the top piece next to the glove box. Snap it all together, cover it up, and you're done.

Thanks for the pics and advice. The dealer said this would take at least an hour. I did it in about 30 minutes, including the time it took to find the right Torx driver.

 

I'm curious why my 2003, with no provision for the adapter, still has the punchout in the side of the glovebox liner. Is there some other "aux" or other accessory that Mercedes was putting there?

 

It probably cost more to produce a different glove box just for the cars without the aux. There's no reason to have a different design, since you can hardly see the punch out if you leave it alone.

It's like the question 'why do drive up ATMs have braille on the keypad?" Well, it's definitely possible that a blind person might walk up to the ATM, but it's more likely that it cost more to do a second run of metal keys without the braille.

On a sidenote, the aux in is definitely NOT a line in. I have to crank my mp3 player to about 70% of it's maximum volume to get the signal level to what the FM radio puts out. When I do, it sounds great though.

 

Sure, but 2003 was before this adapter was made, isn't it? What were they up to? Is there some other AUX that was available for the earlier models? Was the Mercedes iPod kit available earlier?

 

Aux was available if you had a COMAND...

It's a painful, expensive experience, but yeah, it can be done. Personally, I'd go aftermarket before I'd stick in a COMAND.

For pre-facelifted C's, without COMAND, your best option is one of the D2B AUX or iPod interfaces. Most of these replace the CD changer (literally and figuratively), the Denison Gateway 500 is the only exception that I know of that allows you to retain the CD Changer.

One caveat to remember is that on the pre-facelifted cars, the HU's don't understand CDTEXT, so you do NOT get nice displays of song title or artist - despite what some of the adverts on these interfaces say.

Many thanks to the people that have posted how-to comments on this board (this thread and others).

I have an '05 c230K Sport that makes a great wrapper for my RoadyXT XM receiver. The RoadyXT sits nicely in the front part of the ashtray assembly, but will not close if the receiver is in the cradle. I decided not to get the '04 c230 ashtray assembly because it didn't look like the Roady XT would fit very well and I didn't want to make it a "permanent" install be hacking up the cigarette lighter. The RoadyXT is a removable receiver so I have one cradle for it in the house and another in the car. It matches nicely with the aluminum around the shifter, so I don't mind leaving the receiver visible most of the time. It doesn't stay in the car at night anyway.

For around $100 I was able to connect my RoadyXT to the aux. input cable that I purchased from the local MB dealer. I was also able to run an additional cable to the center arm rest console for my iPod. That includes a ground loop isolator to get rid of the whine thru the speakers caused when I accelerate.

Supplies/Cost
6 foot 1/8" extension cable: Had one on-hand (Probably about $5 at RadioShack)
Two tap-in squeeze connectors: Had two on-hand (around $2 for 10 of them at RadioShack)
Aux. input cable: $52
1/8" headphone splitter: $5
Ground loop isolator: $17
12VDC acc. outlet cable: $8
1/8" elbow adapter $4
1/8" to stereo RCA Y cable $7.50

I needed that last cable because the ground loop isolator only came with one end configured for a 1/8" jack. Make sure the cable connects to the ground loop isolator. The RCA ends should be female.

Because of all the help on this forum, the only issues that took some consideration were:
1. connecting to the correct power and ground cables on the back of the cigarette lighter. My neighbor had a multimeter so that wasn't too bad.
2. Routing all the cable in a clean manner. The majority of the extra "cable" ended up (hidden) under the glove compartment. The fuses in the RoadyXT power plug and the 12VDC acc. outlet are accessible by lifting out the carpet next to the center console on the passenger side.
3. The splitter which is plugged into the aux. input in the glove box is a little loose, so it caused a bit of a problem when the cables moved around. Securing the cables a little better seems to have helped. The problem manifested as no sound or only sound on the left side (similar to using a mono instead of stereo cable).

In my humble opinion the end result looks pretty clean. I'll probably end up using the remote that came with the RoadyXT for changing channels, but I like the position (in the ashtray) better than in the armrest or pulled out of the armrest and placed behind the shifter while I drive (which is where it was originally).

 

were you able to pull it apart? I am still trying to open it :-(

 

I haven't tried since then but I'm planning to revisit this later on. I wish someone would make a video showing this and place it on youtube.

 

Finaly got it working!.

For those who still trying to figureout with the yellow thing on the A-piller.
Remove the screew using the torx driver head. Then pull the front part of the plastic thing. Now, the only parts holding the plastic should be the two yellow clamps. It is actually two 'E' shaped clamps. And the top line of the 'E' has a reversed 'c' attached at the end. The E is attached to the body(do not try to use screwdriver to pry the yellow thing apart). Now, try pulling the plastic towards the side (near one clamp). (towards your left side when you are sitting on the passenger seat, NOT to the rear of the car). You need to use some force, since the clamp is tightly holding the plastic thing.
