Dude...is easy as 123. I did my car and my friends, took less then 15 minutes to do one car and I'm a total noob when it comes to these things.

yeah it's so simple, the sill panel just snaps out, you can pull it up with your bare hands, then it snaps back down after you find the aux cable wire and pull it out.

Make sure you remove that 1 screw that is hidden behind the screw cap, before removing that panel.

ok guys, without forcing things and with patience, i was able to get the sill, the a-pillar, and the panel off. the prewired connector with a male end seems to be the only black cable (with green, grey, yellow, brown wires)....correct? also, it seems to be alongside another cable already connected to something else. this black cable runs underneath the doorsill. if so, i'll have to order the AUX cable now. this AUX cable purchase at the MB dealer has a female connector??? thanks everyone for instructions and stating how easy it is to do.

The parts department is a good place to start. Don't expect them to know the part # or know how to look it up, so be sure to bring that with you so they order the correct part. You might even be lucky enough to get the dealer to install it for you if you promise an "excellent" survey to your Service Advisor.

ChristianJan, I am assuming you're going to MBSD. If so, talk to Chris in the Parts Dept. Just call the regular switch-board number and ask for Chris in Parts. Let him know you were referred to by Carlos (with the silver AMG C-Coupe). As for AUX CABLE part #, you need: 203 540 61 07. I would order it today, so that they may have it to you by Wednesday afternoon. (oh, and ask for wholesale price).

As far as Service Advisors go, Travis Cupples is the best at MBSD.

--------------------------------------------
For those of you in Europe: AUX CABLE part # is: 210 440 50 05
Apparently, those in Australia are having a hard time finding either the US or Euro version of the AUX CABLE (don't ask me what the difference is, if any ). So, perhaps some US peeps can help out the Aussie folks.

However, from Sindelfingen, Germany:

how do some people route the wire to the ashtray or the center console? the ashtray probably needs the whole thing to be removed right? thats basically where i wanna put it. or if i dont wanna do that, i'll get that remote that someone mentioned before if putting it in the ashtray seems a bit too tough.

to route the wire, look at the pictures at the very very beginning of this long thread. It will show where you need to take out the door sill, and side panels. But to route to the center console you will also need to remove the floor panels and console side panels. That is a LOT of work, if you've never done it before. I've seen Steve do it, and he's a pro, and it still looks like a hellish job ! The ashtray is probably easier, but you will still have to remove the trim around the head unit, and possibly the trim around the gear selector / shift knob (lever) as well.

Either way, there's a lot of removal involved.

Carlos

I just ordered the AUX cable from MB. It should arrive in a few days. Where is the best place to get the cable (male on both ends) which connects from the ipod to the plug in the glove box?

hmm mine didn't look like that, it was just a single plug.

actually, mine just goes under the passenger seat, I zip tied it to the bars and cables underneath there so it stays in place and you can't see it and you would never know it was there unless i told you. i also got the ground loop isolator from radio shack, you'll probably need that because the aux cable will pick up a lot of noise from the alternator if you plug anything into the 12V outlet in the dash. from there the cable just runs up the passenger side of the center console into the armrest or into the ashtray if i'm using sirius. the cable itself isn't hardwired because i unplug it often to switch between sirius and the ipod.

Thanks for the info and the offer. I'll check out the Monster cable for now. I'm always at Best Buy, Good Guys, and Circuit City.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the photos and explanation. I completed the install today. AUX arrived from MB and bought the 1/8mm cable from Radio Shack. Didn't use the ground isolator since I won't be charging the ipod from the car. Everything works great!

That looks expansive....and spending so much money on this unit seems to defeat the purpose of this thread. I'll stay with the $31 AUX cable from Mercedes.

P.S. Good find though!!

Does anyone know what the four coloured wires of the aux plug are for (how to connect them to a three wires standard minijack)?

My "Ipod" has a special function, if you connect it to an external power source, when there is no power, it enters in a suspend mode. When you give it power again, it starts from the point where it stopped. So...

To connect my "Ipod" I need a DC power too, I'd like having a power coming from the radio (Audio20) itself, so when you turn the radio on you have the power for the Ipod, and when you switch off it you cut the Ipod power.
Is there a +positive DC coming from the radio?
Is it necessary to remove the whole radio to reach it?

[QUOTE=sawloo]I setup the AUX input in my'05 for connecting directly to my ipod. The sound quality is great, much much better than those FM Transmitter :v I think it is worth to post the instruction and some pictures here since many people have asked me how to do it. The installation is very simple, everything is pre-wired(not sure if it is the same for pre'05). It took me less than an hour to complete. Thanks to cc4469 and JeT, this would not be possible without their information

1. You have to get the cable harness (A 203 540 61 07) from a MB dealer. I paid US$44 from a dealer here in Northern CA.
