Thanks and a question

Thanks sawloo for the step-by-step info. Getting my cable tomorrow for my '05 C230 w/ Harmon Kardon Upgrade.

A quick question I was not able to find on several searches: What is the wiring harness that goes into the center hand rest console of the '05 C230? I assume it's for a phone, but would like to know if it can be used as an AUX input like the one in the glove compartment.

Thanks!

The cable is for the phone, and it can't be used as an aux input. The phone sound can be heard on the speakers thru the head unit because the electrical signal is converted to an optical signal in a black box in the rear of the car. The MOST fiber optic cable loop carries the sound to the head unit from the rear of the car.

it doesnt sound like anything will happen. you hold the cd changer button to turn on the aux imput essentially it becomes an additional button.

first of all, it would help if you would update your profile with the type of car you own, year, etc. from there, members can reply to your questions.
i was doubtful with my car (c230k 05 kompresser sedan)....but after reading the 4 pages on this thread....it was successful. thanks to the several guys on here.

Hi, I've been able to get the AUX cable harness connected to the connector in the foot panel but I don't get any sound when the AUX Input is active. Did anyone have a similar problem? Also, is there a need to alter anything on the back of the headunit itself?

Thanks in advance.

So is this under the door still or behind the kick panel, I could not find such a connection under the door still. ?

Well actually, W209 and W203, are very similar cars, so most of the things that apply to W203 should apply to W209, that is what I would think .

I thought it was pretty clear early on that it didn't apply to either of my cars, but it was still fun to read

First of all, it would help if you could update your profile underneath your name. This will help others know which model and year you have.

I have an '05 sedan. Upon removing the panel underneath the glove compartment as well as the door sill, I saw lots of cables\wires. By carefully moving\pulling up the others, I was able find the correct one. You might want to read from beginning to the end of this thread.

Ok the harness is behind the kickwall, I hooked up the same cable you guys used for W203 and it worked. Thanks a lot again for all your help guys.

I am using an Iaudio mp3 player. The sound level is very low, I will probably end up getting a mini amp.

Hey guys, I know the 2006 is basically the same as the 2005 model, but can the aux cable be installed on the 2006? I'm picking mine up on Wednesday and wanted to get the cable right away as well. Any ideas? Thanks for all your help!

I put one in a 06 C240, standard Head unit. Worked fine. Dont forget the screw in the middle of the passenger kick panel. It is under a small plastic cover.

An aux input is possible on an 01 car with cassette player, but you loose the cassette function, and you need to solder inside the radio. Better to trade the car in my opinion. There is a thread with pictures on how to do it.

Hey Guys,

I noticed that some of you are using the variable iPod audio port on the top of the unit to connect your iPod to the AUX. Well, for those of you that have a dockable iPod (the one with the long connector on the bottom) you can use the Sendstation PocketDock line out feature.

This line out feature will have the volume on your iPod preset so you can only change the volume by the radio/steering wheel volume buttons. This is much nicer since you don't have to crank up the iPod volume, or, when you go back to the radio, it's not screaming at you. It also will prevent you from changing the volume when picking up the iPod. It simply plugs into the 30 pin dock connector (the long connector on the bottom of the iPod) and you then plug in the 1/8" audio connector into it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...&s=pc&v=glance

Now for my question... how do you run the 1/8" audio wire into the center console? I have been trying to figure out how to run mine through there without breaking anything. Currently I am leaving my iPod in the glovebox, but I would love to have it in the top center console cubby.

Any advise would be most appreciated!

From the description, it sounds like this thing won't work with the newer 20GB+ iPods. Seems like a cool product, though. Hopefully I'm mistaken.

Appleguy, thanks for the tip, I think I may get one. (I don't want to shell out the $300 for the iPod integration kit.)

They have versions that work...
http://www.sendstation.com/us/produc...neout-usb.html

that's the one that I was going to get...

*edit* I just realized something, I have my ipod turned up all the way b/c the volume on the aux is pretty low. so if I add this line-in, my volume may be waaay too low. anyone know of anything like this that is also a built in amplifier?

*edit 2* NVM, I found one... http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=193794

Now it's just trying to see if I can get a cigarette lighter cable that'll extend and tuck neatly to my glovebox.

This seems like a much better solution:

http://everythingipod.com/product222...tarq=YES&max=1

Dock, charger, line-out...all in one.
