MY05's do NOT have valet trunk lock
So, I brought in my car for its first maintenance last week, and I complied about the truck lock not being able to lock properly with my metal key. So, the dealership said they ordered a "tumbler" and that it came in yesterday. I took it to the dealer today, and they "worked" on it for 6 hours and finally according to my service advisor, the shop foreman came and asked the tech what he was doing, and that the 05's don't have valet truck locking capabilities. I even called 1800formerc, and they confirmed it for me as well.
What the hell is the point of having a "valet key" that only works for the glovebox? I don't get it. Why did MB get rid of this? Damn, this sucks.

This isn't my first Benz, and this is a no-brainer that anyone would expect. I read the manual, and didn't think MB would be dumb enough not to include this...

The key is to open the door lock on the drivers door or to lock the glove box! My 2003 Coupe does not even have a tumbler in the hatch! Only the handle and no way to manually lock the hatch! Also not sure what the purpose would really be for a trunk lock since it unlocks with the power locks anyhow and then all you have to do is pull the handle! I have a Coupe, but isn't there an internal trunk release in the car anyhow? Also don't you have a trunk pop button on you smart key? Excuse my ignorance but when I got mine I only got two smart keys and nothing else, not even a wallet type key for the drivers door!
Edit: Point of the manual lock is obvious, it is to unlock the trunk in an emergency where either your smart key does not work properly or you have no power in the car!

Just curious, if you had a split rear fold-down seat, wouldn't it make locking the trunk with a valet key pointless since you could still get into the trunk through the fold down? Or does the valet key lock the fold down seats as well?

The Sales Manager showed me I had the valet key and explained it's use. He told me that you put your stuff in the trunk, lock it with the key, take the key and give the beeper to the valet and he wont be able to open the trunk with the beeper. I haven't checked if it works though.

Speaking of which, on C320 Coupe, I was able to get a SmartKey with trunk release button (long "Citronic" salt-water story ). Anyway, it works great ! Additionally, I set the SmartKey to unlock Driver's side door first with one press of the button, and unlock Pass side and trunk with second press of the button. Too bad the coupe doesn't have the valet lock on the trunk though. Additionally, my daughter can get it in to the trunk from inside the car by taking down the split rear seats, and then popping the GREEN release button inside the trunk. She thinks that's the craziest adventure since Mr. Toad's Wild Ride !

I still have a lot more to do !! It never ends... but looking at the Sport Sedan parked next to my Sport Coupe, it sure seems that there's so much more you can do to a Coupe to make it really different, sticking with OEM MB and AMG parts only.

So if the MY05's don't have the valet truck lock option, why do they still have a tumbler there? Does the metal key still lock and unlock the trunk? And if you do lock it with the metal key, are you saying that you can open it by using the remote?

Actually he said, what the Sales Manager told him....
Jan Ken Po: I tried it on a 2004.5 and it works. Valet key locks the trunk, and then when you try to push the button on the SmartKey to open the trunk, nothing happens.
PRHeloPilot: can you check your 2005, and lock the trunk with the valet key, then try to open the trunk with your SmartKey to see if it opens.
Hopefully, this will settle this debate !
